Events around Carson City for Monday, Sept. 16
Heading into first day of the work week and halfway into the month, Monday, Sept. 16, 2019 will be quite a cool-down from the weekend, with gusty winds, a chance for showers and daytime high in the mid-60s. Activities include a presentation of the green dining district now being developed in Carson City, art showings, West Coast swing dancing, and more. Enjoy your day.

— Green dining district organizer to speak at Carson City Democratic luncheon. 11:30 a.m. The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Donna Walden, President of GreenUP!, a nonprofit that has established a green dining district along Carson Street. The district's purpose is to help restaurants reduce all waste streams, with a strong focus on food waste. Accompanying her will be Angela Bullentini Wolf of Gather, who will describe that restaurant's experience implementing green practices. Walden will also provide details about a statewide certified green business program currently being launched and what it could mean for businesses in Nevada. The political climate in Nevada is ripe for measures that address environmental concerns. The year 2019 saw single stream recycling become a reality in Carson City, and Governor Sisolak signed a bill into law that requiring the state to reach 50 percent renewable energy by 2030. Donna Walden consults with businesses on how they can green their operations. In 2018, working together with Western Nevada College, she secured federal funding to launch a statewide green business program. In 2019, on behalf of GreenUP!, she secured a Nevada Division of Environmental Protection grant to launch the green dining district in Carson City. This event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Monday, September 16th, at the Carson City Round Table Pizza, 3325 Retail Drive just off College Parkway. Sponsored by the Democratic Men’s Committee, these luncheons help keep the lights on at Carson City’s Democratic HQ. An all-you-can-eat pizza and salad bar lunch buffet is available for $7.99.
