Breaking News: All Carson City schools canceled due to flooding
With flooding reported at some of the school campuses and around town, the Carson City School District announced just before 8 a.m. that all schools now CLOSED Friday due to heavy flooding.
Late last night the district had announced that schools were on a two-hour delay. However due to the nature of flooding overnight, the district decided to close all campuses. See the photos and video by Jeff Moser below.
With the closure of the Carson City School District, all Carson City Parks and Recreation Kids Klub before and after school programs are cancelled as well. Parents are asked to please pick up their children who are currently at the Community Center from the AM program. Carson City Parks and Rec will have staff here until all the children are picked up.
Meanwhile, Kings Canyon Road west of the Longview intersection is now open. Water and debris continue to cover the roadway, please use caution if driving on the road.
A Flood Hotline has been designated for flood related reporting and questions, which are not life-threatening. The number is (775) 887-2355 and officials ask the public to use this number instead of 9-1-1 for non-emergency flood calls. This number will be staffed all night and all day tomorrow.
Please be watchful of City crews working as they continue to mitigate and assess storm damage.
The following roads are closed:
Curry Street is closed from Rhodes Street to 10th Street.
A 100 foot section of Combs Canyon Road that is 1/8 of a mile south of the Lakeview Road intersection- travel is reduced to one lane, please use caution and yield to oncoming traffic. Residents are advised to use the Highway 395 egress/ingress for the Lakeview subdivision.
Musser Street between Mountain Street and Iris Street is closed due to a fallen tree.
Center Drive between Clear Creek Avenue and Topsy Lane
Carson City Public Works encourages residents to visit www.carson.org to stay up-to-date on the weather, road closures, trail/path closures, sandbag locations and resources that are deployed across the city. Additional public information that is released will be posted to the City website flood page.
