Students from all four classes recently nominated Carson High School Winterfest candidates for 2021 Winterfest week, Feb. 1-5, where both a King and Queen will be crowned. The theme, Destination Unknown, was decided upon; since students are not allowed to experience the vacations they love, they are bringing their vacation destinations to CHS.

The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City will be hosting a Lego Day at the Museum. This day will be filled with fun activities like crafts, photos, and (of course) Legos!

Legos are a great way to help children develop many skills including visualizing in the third dimension, developing literary skills, learning to follow instructions, and is simply a great way to spend time with your child! The Museum has already prepped Covid-19 safe “packs” of Legos.

According to Teen Health and Wellness, Rosen Publishing, “Sharing stories is a powerful way to connect with other people. By sharing your own story, you can connect with other teens who are dealing with similar experiences. Your words can provide hope and comfort, or empower them to face their own challenges.”

RENO — With much of the State of Nevada listed as in extreme drought, Nevadans are facing forecasts for a mild winter, with little precipitation since the rainy season started. With these designations, southern Nevadans are facing a mild and dry winter and northern Nevadans are looking at an uncertain forecast. All could face water restrictions, crop or pasture loss and, with exceptional drought, water shortage emergencies.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public's help in locating two runaway juveniles last seen on Dec. 31, 2020.

The Nevada Artists Association Gallery starts off 2021 with the New Year's Show, a collection of over 65 member entries in categories, including oils, watercolors, pastels, acrylics, 3D, dry media and photography.

It was an eventful year around the Carson City region notwithstanding the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's some notable stories that were not pandemic related that happened in 2020.

Carson City-based DeBug Computer faced a Christmas challenge. Every year, the company hosts a Photos with Santa event with proceeds going to a local non-profit. The DeBug team huddled with Santa to discuss how to reach the children safely during the coronavirus pandemic. They decided to ask children, with their parents’ consent and supervision, to email a letter to Santa@debugcomputer.net.

A 34-year-old Carson City woman was arrested early Tuesday for suspicion of battery with a deadly weapon and suspected drug offenses, a sheriff's deputy report states.

Carson Now reader Christy Jo Moore submitted these photos and a Christmas message welcoming locals to visit their Christmas light show and music extravaganza on Apollo Drive in Carson City.

This evening was "The Great Conjunction" of Jupiter and Saturn. They started out low in the sky but were very visible. Photos were taken off of Pine Lane in north Carson City with a Nikon Coolpix P-1000, which has a substantial zoom. As an added bonus I just had to zoom into the moon and capture it as well.

Governor Sisolak announced Monday via social media that the first shipment of the approved Moderna COVID-19 vaccine has arrived in Northern Nevada, showing photos supplied by Carson City Health and Human Services.

National Wreaths Across America Day, celebrated at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City on Saturday, Dec. 19, honored veterans by placing wreaths on headstones and markers at over 1,200 locations throughout the U.S. and abroad to those who served our country.

While most students across the country have been learning online this fall because of COVID, a group of students at Western Nevada College took advantage of an exciting hands-on scientific learning opportunity earlier this month.

While this year’s safe and sober celebrations may look different, Partnership Carson City, in collaboration with Carson City Sheriff's Office School Resource Officers, is encouraging students to celebrate safety and responsibly this New Year’s Eve by offering gift cards as a token of appreciation.

As the risk for COVID-19 transmission continues to increase, Carson City Health and Human Services is encouraging residents to avoid attending or hosting holiday celebrations with those outside of your household and utilizing lower risk activities to celebrate the holiday with those outside of your household.

The Carson City Photo Club has announced the winners of its monthly photo contest. The theme addressed by the November competition was "Action." The contests had a tie for third place.

This year has been extremely challenging and with the impact of Covid; many of our families are struggling to ensure they can celebrate Christmas. However, generous community members have come together determined to help these families have a Christmas celebration not even Covid can stop.

Tensions were high Saturday in downtown Carson City in front of the Nevada Legislature building as a “Stop the Steal” rally attracted both a group of people affiliated with the Proud Boys, as well as an armed militia.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Several fundraisers, including the annual “Share Your Christmas” Food Drive will be available throughout the Carson City, Minden and Reno areas on Friday. You can visit the North Pole safely as part of a drive-thru Santa's Village experience at V&T Railway in Carson City, beginning Friday into the weekend. A living nativity scene will be featured at First United Methodist Church on Saturday and Sunday. Combined with train rides in Virginia City, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement. A 28-year-old man was booked Tuesday into Carson City Jail for two felony warrants alleging domestic battery with a prior felony and domestic battery causing substantial bodily harm, a sheriff's office booking report states.

UPDATED at 3:41PM: Arrests have been made in connection with the recent string of BB gun vandalism incidences in Carson City. Three suspects have admitted to the crimes and bb guns, pistols and rifles have been recovered, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Crazy Cat Dog Grooming and Projections Photography are co-hosting a community meet and greet and Christmas photo session with our local Carson City Sheriff's Office Canine unit on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Citizens are welcome to come meet our officers and their canine partners.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office is requesting the public's assistance in identifying three burglary suspects and the SUV in the photos above.

The annual holiday craft fair has taken up residence in the Carson Mall just in time for the season of giving, with health considerations in place.

The Carson City Library is not one to shy away from innovation and integrating technology. The latest, are four self-check kiosks installed last week designed to allow for hands-free or limited touch operation to help to curb the number of touches taking place, especially as pandemic concerns continue and the focus remains on keeping the community safe.

These photos of Wednesday afternoon's emergency plane landing behind Fremont Elementary School were sent in by Martina Koldewey. Both the pilot and passenger were not injured.
