Trio jailed for meth trafficking, drugs found in vehicle at Carson City parole and probation

Three were arrested Wednesday by the Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team for suspicion of drug trafficking after a vehicle search at the Department of Parole and Probation led to the discovery of 14.9 grams of methamphetamine.

Arrested were Cody Robert Hume, 25, and Amanda Kay Miles, both of Winnemucca and Cullen James Hume, 21, listed as a transient.

According to the arrest report, Carson City SET was advised of a situation at the parole and probation office on Long Street. Investigators learned the three arrived at the office in a white Dodge van to have Cullen James Hume — who is on state parole supervision — checked in with his parole officer.

Cullen Hume and Cody Hume are brothers. Cody Hume is on state probation supervision. Amanda Miles is the girlfriend of Cody Hume. When a parole and probation officer asked Miles if there was anything illegal in the vehicle they arrived in, Miles stated there was illegal drugs in the vehicle, the arrest report states.

A CCSO K-9 handler deputy arrived on the scene. The canine, Tarzan, conducted a free air sniff of the exterior of the vehicle and alerted positive, the arrest report states. During the search, P&P officers located a large amount of methamphetamine, the arrest report states. Inside the woman's purse was a meth pipe.

All three were read their Miranda rights by P&P officers which all three waived. During interviews under Miranda with Cody and Cullen Hume and Amanda Miles, all three subjects stated each person was aware of the large amount of methamphetamine in the vehicle and were actively using meth as recently as the day prior, the report states.

Cody and Cullen Hume were placed on P&P hold for violations. The methamphetamine was tested and weighed, with a total weight of 14.9 grams. All three were arrested for suspicion of trafficking of a controlled substance (14 to 28 grams). Miles was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. No bail holds for the two men on their parole and probation violations. Bail amount for the drug charge, $40,000 each. Bail for Miles, $40,000.

In other arrests:
— A 38-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday in the 900 block of North Roop Street for suspicion burglary, a felony, and disorderly conduct. Paul Delbert Simpson was taken into custody after an incident that happened at a nearby grocery store.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the store in the 500 block of East William Street for a report of a man who lunged at people. Deputies arrived and learned the subject had left, walking east toward Roop Street. Officers located the man and detained him for questioning.

An officer advised Simpson of the stop, which the man said the store had accused him of stealing. He was asked if he had lunged at anyone at the store and the man replied no, the arrest report states.

Deputies spoke with an employee about the incident and asked what was meant by the man having "lunged" at them. The person noted the man was getting in their face and yelling and throwing his hands up in her face and that they felt threatened and thought the man was going to hit them, the arrest report states. The person wished to press charges.

Deputies then met with grocery store personnel, who advised the man had been frequently stealing from the store and that he was refused as a customer earlier because he was caught stealing earlier in the day. A deputy reviewed video surveillance of the incident, and observed the man walking to the self-check out and then got into the employee's face, taking money out of his pocket and putting it into the employee's face.

He was observed charging forward toward the employee and put his middle finger in the employee's face before he was escorted by several people out of the store.

Earlier in the day the man had attempted to use his EBT card at the self check out but was denied because the transaction had alcoholic beverages. A deputy reviewed video of the incident and saw the man proceed to grab all the grocery bags and walk out of the store, the report states.

The deputy collected voided receipts and witness statements. A criminal history check was done where deputies learned Simpson had been convicted of a felony DUI in the past. Deputies contacted the district attorney's office and explained the circumstances, which led to a burglary charge. Bail: $20,000.

— A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 4:17 p.m. in the area of Highway 50 East and Deer Run Road for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI second, hit and run and failure to yield.

According to the arrest report, a traffic stop was made on a suspect vehicle involved in a hit and run. The deputy spoke with the driver, observed the vehicle had damage to the driver side and rear passenger side. The officer asked the man what happened.

The man told the officer his vehicle was hit but that he didn't really care, the arrest report states. He also said he wanted to go home. The officer observed the man had red watery eyes, slurred speech and a mild odor of alcohol that was coming from the vehicle.

The officer asked him if he needed medical attention. The man declined. The officer asked if he had been drinking. The man said a little bit, the report states. The man agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He provided a preliminary breath test with a result of .181. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI and hit and run.
Officers took statements from the victim of the hit and run driver who said the suspect fled the scene and that he called 911. Bail: $3,269.

— A 25-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday in the area of Curry and Moses streets for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Aug. 22, 2019 out of Carson City Justice Court.

— A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 10:50 a.m. in the area of 20 College Parkway for a misdemeanor warrant alleging contributing to a minor. Bail: $1,000.

— A 43-year-old Minden man was arrested Tuesday, 8:36 a.m. for a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant issued Oct. 12, 2017 out of East Fork Township. He also faces charges of basic speeding and driving on a revoked Nevada driver's license.

According to the arrest report, the man was clocked going 26 mph in a 15 mph school zone. The deputy made a stop and learned the man had a revoked driver's license for DUI and the misdemeanor warrant. He was arrested. Total bail amounted listed: $1,329.

UPDATE THURSDAY: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who died Wednesday morning following the two vehicle crash on I-580 in Carson City. They are Alejandra Hernandez Valtierra, 36, and Viola Santoyo Huizar, 48, both of Carson City.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.

Dayton Elementary School in Lyon County was honored Wednesday along 13 other schools including Carson High in Carson City as a Nevada Purple Star School.
