Couple arrested for burglary Tuesday evening; found with drugs, four burglary devices, and a gun

A 36-year-old Sparks man and a 25-year-old Sparks woman were arrested at a local department store for multiple felonies after stealing items despite being trespassed multiple times from all locations of the stores.

According to the police report, the man has a history with the department store and has been trespassed multiple times from all locations and is known to become aggressive with staff members.

He, along with Stephanie Taylor Ramos, were each charged with possession of burglary tools, petit larceny, and trespassing; in addition, Ramos was also charged with felony possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, and felony possession of a controlled substance.

Deputies were dispatched to the S. Carson Street department store at approximately 6:45 pm in regards to a trespasser, according to the report. They were advised the man was known to be confrontational with staff.

Upon arrival, deputies were told the man and woman had left the area in their car, described as a white Nissan Altima. Deputies immediately located the car at a nearby fast food restaurant’s parking lot on S. Carson Street.

They made contact with the man and woman and explained why they were being stopped. The man admitted to being in the store, but said he thought he was not allowed to return to the stores in the Reno area, not the Carson store.

While the deputy was speaking to the man, dispatch advised a pair of Skull Candy headphones had been reported missing from the department store, which were in plain view on the floor of the passenger seat in the car. Ramos handed the deputy the headphones who advised they were “very similar to the headphones the man was seen holding in the store.”

The man was asked to step out of the car and was detained; he was in possession of multiple different knives on his person.

He denied stealing the headphones and told deputies where he had left the headphones in the store. He said he had been trespassed from the Reno stores because he had previously been arrested from stealing from the stores.

Dispatch advised he had been convicted of petit larceny three times in the past and had been arrested for possessing drug paraphernalia. Deputies asked if he was still using drugs, and he said he used heroin.

An unnamed Deputy K-9 was dispatched to search the car, and the man admitted to having drug “rigs” in his car.

The Deputy K-9 conducted an exterior sniff of the car and gave a positive alert.

Deputies located a syringe with a dark brown fluid inside which deputies identified as heroin. It was located in a small reflective bag on the passenger side, according to the report, which is where Ramos was sitting. There was also a .38 semi-automatic pistol in a black purse, which was also on the passenger side. There was also a magnetic device wrapped in tape, which deputies identified as a burglary tool used to deactivate security devices in stores.

Two more burglary tools were located in the car, one near the center console and another in the back seat. Two items of clothing with the tags still on were also located, which were identified by the manager of the department store as being stolen.

They were taken into custody. The man said Ramos was a heroin user and she was supposed to be flying to Texas the following day to enter a rehabilitation facility. He said he had no knowledge of the gun in her bag.

Ramos, according to the report, described where the heroin was located but said it was not hers. She also said the man had been carrying the gun in the store and that he stole the clothing. She said he put the gun in her bag, along with the magnetic device.

While in custody, deputies found yet another magnetic device on Ramos’s person during pre-booking.

They were released without incident to the Carson City Jail.

Bail for the man: $3,094

Bail for Ramos: $26,489

—A 22-year-old Carson City woman and a 41-year-old Carson City man were arrested in the area of Millennium and Molly Drive Tuesday evening on the felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Melinda Rose Roach and Arthur Barker were arrested after a call came in regarding a report of a suspicious vehicle. The reporting party told dispatch they suspected the subjects in the vehicle were using a controlled substance, according to the police report.

Deputies arrived and made contact with the two occupants of the vehicle, who were identified as Roach and Barker.

The two told deputies they were homeless and were looking for a place to sleep. They were removed from the vehicle while deputies conducted an investigation.

An unnamed deputy K-9 performed an exterior sniff of the vehicle which gave a positive alert to his handler.

Located inside the driver’s side of the vehicle were two loaded hypodermic devices in a purse where Roach had been sitting, along with empty hypodermic needles.

They further located a small plastic bag on the driver’s seat where Barker was sitting and had also located a scale and a metal tin in the center console of the vehicle, which contained trace amounts of a white powdered substance suspected to be methamphetamine.

They were transported to the Carson City Jail without incident.

Bail for each arrestee: $3,637

—A 52-year-old Stateline man was arrested Tuesday evening on the felony charge of Burglary and a misdemeanor Nevada Highway Patrol warrant out of Carson township.

Adam Scott Morris was arrested after deputies were dispatched to a 3200 Market Street store on a report of a petit larceny in progress. Upon arrival, dispatch advised the man was currently inside being watched by a loss prevention officer.

The officer informed dispatch the man stole four tires, worth $272, then proceeded to walk them out to his car and load them in without paying. He said the man reentered the store wearing tan khaki pants and a black blazer.

Deputies located the man inside the store who was pushing a shopping cart full of items. He was asked to accompany deputies into the loss prevention room, and he complied.

A video was shown of Morris stealing the tires. Dispatch also returned with an active Nevada Highway Patrol Warrant issued in November with a bail of $540 cash only after failing to appear on a traffic citation.

He was detained on the charges, and told deputies he wanted to get tires for his friend and had planned to come to Walmart to steal the tires.

Upon transportation to the Carson City Jail, it was learned Morris was a convicted felon who had been convicted of one prior petit larceny, and he was booked on felony Burglary.

Bail: $20,540; $540 cash only

—A 34-year-old Reno man was arrested in the 700 block of S. Carson Street Tuesday afternoon on the charges of possession of a dangerous drug without a valid prescription, a gross misdemeanor, and a misdemeanor alternative sentencing violation.

Deputies arrested the man after patrolling the area of S. Carson and 7th Street when they saw a suspicious vehicle parked on the east side of a closed business, according to the report.

There were two people in the vehicle, and when deputies made contact with the occupants, the man “appeared very nervous; he had trouble sitting still, his hands changed position numerous times and he spoke quickly when talking.”

The deputy asked the man what he was doing in the parking lot of a closed business, and the man gave several different stories which were inconsistent with one another.

Upon checking for wants and warrants on the man, dispatch advised the man had been flagged with an “officer safety” notification for numerous previous violent felony charges. He was also under the supervision of the Department of Alternative Sentencing for a previous narcotic related charge.

The man was removed from the vehicle and detained for safety.

The vehicle was registered to the female passenger, who gave consent for the deputies to search the vehicle.

In the storage area of the driver’s side door where the man had been sitting deputies located an orange prescription bottle which contained 16 Lupin 300 mg pills and five Cyclobenzaprine Hydrochloride 10 mg pills. The prescription on the bottle was for Lupin pills registered to the man; however, the Hydrochloride pills did not have a prescription.

Bail: $5,500; $3,000 cash only

—A Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday evening in the 1000 block of Woodside Drive on the charge of misdemeanor domestic battery.

Deputies were dispatched to the residence on a report of a potential domestic battery.

The reporting party met with the deputies upon their arrival and said he and his girlfriend had gotten into an argument. He said he thought she was cheating on him and he got mad, according to the police report.

He admitted to drinking four beers and was having a difficult time walking and slurring his speech. He said his girlfriend punched him in the face and attempted to throw a beer bottle at him. Deputies noted the man had a laceration on his nose that was bleeding.

The girlfriend said nothing got physical and it was only a verbal argument. When deputies informed her her boyfriend said she punched him, she ultimately admitted to it, according to the report.

Deputies asked to see her hands, which had a mark on her hand consistent with a tooth mark which was fresh and actively bleeding.

She was booked without incident.

Bail: $3,000
