Carson City kids shop for warm clothes, donate to emergency warming shelter
Donevan Coffin and Kayden Gildark went shopping Wednesday for gloves, hats and socks to donate to the homeless warming facility that opens tonight through Saturday at Fuji Park. This is them dropping them off. Blessed to teach the importance of helping others to our children.
Carson City and Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, are partnering to protect those seeking refuge from the cold during the overnight period. The cold weather shelter, located at Fuji Park on Old Clear Creek road, is scheduled to open on Wednesday night beginning at 6 p.m. through Saturday night.
Those who would like to stay at the shelter may begin arriving at 6 p.m. Shelters are for people who are homeless or cannot maintain heat in their home; can care for themselves, and are not at risk to themselves or others.
No one will be admitted to the shelter in possession of drugs or alcohol, and pets must be under the control of their owner. The shelter closes at 7 a.m. each morning.
