Senator Square: Homecoming week, sports signups and senior spotlight
The annual tradition of Homecoming is upon us. There are many activities taking place this week, both athletic and non-athletic. Each day has a particular dress-up theme, a lunch time activity, and an evening time activity that students can participate. Tuesday’s dress up day is “crazy hat” day.
For a $1 donation, a student can wear a hat of their choice. Hats will not be allowed without paying that donation. That evening students can attend the annual lip sync at the community center. To see a list of events for the whole week, please visit www.carsonhigh.com and see the current events section on the left side of the page. Congratulations to the king and queen candidates nominated by the senior class. Crowning of the king and queen will take place halftime of the football game on Friday night in Carson City. The game is preceded that evening by the homecoming parade of athletes and clubs at 6 p.m. on Saliman Road, of which is open to the public.
King Candidates:
Kyle Kunz, Jared Hearn, Dilyn Rooker, Nolan Shine, Fred Christensen, and Casey Stevens
Queen Candidates:
Abbey Dudley, Lindsay Hettrick, Bailie Zuber, Chantal Torres, Sarah Christl, and Jessica Basa
Winter Sports Signups
Winter Sports sign up night will be held Monday, Oct. 13, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the library. Those who have not signed up for a winter sport through the parent portal/info snap must do so prior to turning in their sport packet, or complete the packet during this signup time. Sports packets will not be given out. All sign-ups will be completed through this on-line process. All athletes that have turned in their packet must complete a returning athlete form and be cleared through the library and finance office prior to turning in the sports packet. The deadline for sign-ups will be Nov. 5. Eligibility will be based on the Oct. 17 1st quarter grading period. See the Athletic office for more information.

Yearbook Sales
Are you having a hard time deciding what to get your granddaughter, grandson, son, or daughter for Christmas this year? Well, we have solution to your problem... buy them the award-winning Carneta Yearbook. It is something they can always cherish and they can look back at all the memories they have made this past year. This year, the staff is celebrating Nevada's 150th birthday as part of the book's theme. To order online, find the yearbook logo on the Carson High website. You can also place your order by visiting the front office at CHS or call 283-1782 for additional information.
NHS Induction
On Monday, Oct. 6 National Honor Society Chapter of Carson High held its annual Induction Ceremony. The event included 80 new inductees and 79 returning members. Our keynote speaker was Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell. He shared some of the memories of being in National Honor Society as a student at Carson High. He talked about the challenges he faced while transitioning from high school into Standford University. He finished his speech talking about why college is a life-long investment and how hard work and good ethics will get you far in life. Every year, due to some unknown laws of nature, one or two students' names disappear from the program. This year it was Caroline Gabica and Avery Nodak. Please accept our apologies. Congratulation to all NHS members on your academic achievements. Thank you for being outstanding citizens and making our community a better place.
NHS Blood Drive
National Honor Society is hosting a blood drive on Oct. 15 from 7:30 to 4:45 p.m. in the small gym of Carson High School. Community members are welcome to participate. Online registration is available at bloodhero.com. The code word is Senators. Free cholesterol testing is available with each donation. Free refreshments will be provided. Find the hero in you and save three lives!
Socktober
Socktober is here. Starting this week and through all of October, bring in new socks to your B4 class. The class that brings the most socks will win a prize. CHS Leadership has organized this fundraising event to give back to the community. They have joined a nationwide movement to provide over 1 million homeless persons across the nation with new socks. The socks collected at CHS will stay within Carson City. To make a donation, contact Ann Britt at 775-283-1770.
Student of the Week
This week's student of the week is Alexa Haight. Alexa is a freshman as Carson High. She is studious, always optimistic, and willing to lend a hand whenever she is asked. Thank you Alexa for being such a great student here at CHS!
Senior Spotlight
Carson High school is pleased to recognize Jessica Basa as this week’s senior in the spotlight. Jessica has a GPA of 4.8 and is carrying a full load of AP and Honors classes. She currently holds the office of Student Body Public Relations Officer and is a member of National Honor Society, Skills USA, and Link Crew.
Outside of school, Jessica is active in the community as a volunteer at Carson Tahoe Hospital. She has also taken lessons in Tae Kwon Do for many years and has earned her black belt.
Jessica hopes to earn a degree in Computer Science but has yet to decide on where she will attend college. She is considering UNR, the University of San Diego, and Boston University.
We are proud of the contributions Jessica has made to Carson High School and our community and wish her the best of luck in the future.
