Spooky Carson City Ghost Walk with Madame Curry now comes with ghoulish vampire lore
Get ready for Carson City’s spookiest historical event of the fall season: the 26th season of the Carson City Ghost Walk, led by Madame Curry.
Though technically Madame Curry is a fictitious historical character, the annual ghost walk is full of interesting information about the historical homes and people around our capital — with a little extra supernatural spook thrown in.
Join Madame Curry Saturday, Oct. 20 for the event of “Madame Curry and the Vampire Hunters,” which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with tours leaving every half hour. There are different guides for each tour, according to their website.
The guided tours leave from the corner of Third and Curry streets at the McFadden Plaza and each tour lasts approximately two hours.
“The Carson City Ghost Walk is a delightfully entertaining and enjoyable way to experience Carson City’s Victorian Era and diverse history,” said a representative of the Ghost Walk. “Hear about lingering spirits of the past centuries, haunted and paranormal stories and meet characters and tour historic homes and businesses along the tour.”
This year, things are mixing up with the addition of vampire lore.
The tour will focus on the history of 1870s Carson City and early Nevada, with a twist of the “imagined fantasy of a western victorian town’s vampire culture.”
Costumes are welcomed, and encouraged, as a part of the tour.
Attendees are asked to arrive 10 minutes before the walk begins, and there will also be photo opportunities, tables, psychics and ghost walk merchandise for sale.
Ticket are $15 in advance, or $20 on the day of the event. Children 3 and under are free.
Advanced tickets can be purchased here, or they can be ordered by mail.

Some of the tour’s stops include the following historic sites:
— The Prang House: Originally built in Dayton, NV, the house was moved to this site in Carson City. The house is famous for resident Louis Prang, “The Father of the American Christmas card.”
— The Bliss Bungalow: The John Chartz House, built in 1914 by John Chartz, who was the District Attorney. There is a time capsule that was placed in the columns in 2005. JImmy Chartz lived in the home until 1999.
— The Brewery Arts Center: Built in 1874 by the Carson Brewing Company, which produced Tahoe Beer. The building has been transformed into an arts center.
— The Rinckel Mansion: Built 1875-1876 with the fortune of Mathias Rinckel, a forward-looking meat magnate who struck it rich supplying Gold Rushers and Lake Tahoe lumbermen.
— The Curry House: Built in 1871 by Carson City founder Abraham Curry, the house is built from sandstone from Abe Curry’s Quarry.
The Ghost Walk relies on its volunteers to continue. If you are interested in participating, please contact the Ghost Walk at ghostwalkingtour@gmail.com, or call 775.348.6279.
