Carson City deputies arrest woman for stealing car, eluding deputies, hit and run, assault with a deadly weapon, and more

— A 34-year-old transient woman was arrested in the 800 block of North Roop Street on 13 charges including grand theft auto, hit and run, eluding, and assault with a deadly weapon.

Nicole Lee Katz was arrested after deputies were dispatched to the Carson City Aquatics Center for a report of a stolen vehicle.

According to the report, the victim had arrived at the Aquatics center around 12:45 and placed her bag and car keys in a locker in the women’s locker room. At approximately 2 p.m. she noticed that her keys were missing and her car was gone.

While deputies spoke with the victim, a call came in that another law enforcement agent was attempting to stop a vehicle for cutting off other vehicles in the area of 50 and Silver State, which matched the description of the victim’s vehicle.

The vehicle fled the scene, and was pursued, but the vehicle was lost soon after in the area of Lompa Lane and Carmine.

Deputies were alerted to the vehicle in the area of Table Rock and North Ridge, after the vehicle went the wrong way in the roundabout and struck another vehicle before fleeing. Another pursuit began.

According to the report, the vehicle was disregarding traffic control devices and nearly causing additional crashes. At one point, the vehicle left the roadway and was traveling through open fields near Market Street.

The vehicle was ultimately located near a Mexican fast-food chain in the area of Market Street, and a female driver was seen leaving the area.

Katz was apprehended at the intersection of Roop and Hot Springs Road.

At the jail, Katz told deputies she wanted an attorney, and deputies could smell the odor of alcohol coming from her breath. She also appeared “amped up,” according to the report, and was making quick, exaggerated movements and was very quick to make comments or speak.

A silver box containing hypodermic needles with an unknown substance inside was located, along with a modified pen with a crystalline substance inside it.

A warrant was granted to draw Katz’s blood for testing.

Katz provided her identity to deputies, and dispatch printed a photo from the California DMV where Katz said she had a license. The photo did not look like Katz, and some of the physical descriptions did not match.

Katz advised she was born in Long Beach, Calif. The information for Katz out of the California DMV stated she was born in New York.

Katz’s fingerprints are being submitted for proper identification.

Katz also attempted to hit a motorcycle deputy during their pursuit, deputies later learned.

Bail: $78,750

— A Carson City hairdresser has been formally booked on burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary after she allegedly shared vacation plans of a client with other burglary suspects.

On September 26, https://carsonnow.org/story/09/26/2019/carson-city-couples-home-burglari... three people including hairdresser Jennila McDaniel-Schumacher were arrested following an investigation into a couple whose home was burglarized while they were on vacation in Hawaii.

According to the arrest report during an interview with Summer Mary Jacobs, one of the other suspects of the burglary, Jacobs admitted that her friend, McDaniel, had told her and Aaron Davis Maurer about her client’s vacation plans.

Jacobs then admitted going into the victims’ home with Maurer and McDaniel where they took tools and other items from the victims’ yard.

Jacobs then told deputies that McDaniel and Maurer made a second trip to the home where they made entry into the residence through a window, and stole firearms, jewelry and a computer. Jacobs said she assisted by hiding the items in her residence.

Maurer has denied going back to the residence for the second time.

When detectives spoke with McDaniel, she denied all involvement in the burglary and said she had simply been hanging out with the other suspects and showed them the victims were on vacation via Facebook.

She said she told the suspects the victims lived at a trailer park on Hot Springs Road, and identified the park. She said she denied identifying the specific address and she denied knowledge of the burglary.

McDaniel was then arrested for a probation violation and she consented to a download of her cellphone and signed a consent to search form.

On McDaniel’s cellphone, deputies located thirty-five calls to and from Jacobs between Sept. 16 to Sept. 20, and they located four text messages sent on Sept. 18 listing four of the firearms that had been stolen: “the marlin call 22” “Invhester 20 Guageshot gun,” “the marlin 30-30,” “Amaceo Rossi 22.”

McDaniel also sent Jacobs a facebook message on Sept. 22 stating: “Summer we gotta make some money tomorrow like enough to be ok for a few days,” which McDaniel later deleted.

Criminalists also located several internet searches on McDaniel’s cellphone in connection with the burglary such as “Superpawn” “what is flash gold plating” “what does CID mean on jewelry” “what does 14kc on jewelry mean,” etc.

Deputies further booked McDaniels on burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary.

Additional Bail: $27,500

According to the report, Aaron Juan Hernandez and the 57-year-old were arrested by Special Enforcement Team deputies after they were in the area of Columbia Way to conduct an area and probation check.

Two residences on Columbia Way have been the subject of a SET investigation for about 10 months, the report states. Informants as well as citizens consistently inform SET of drug activity at both residences.

To date, SET has made approximately 25 arrests out of both homes during that time frame.

In addition, one of the homes had a dog on the loose in the neighborhood.

Deputies located the dog, which belonged to one of the homes. While returning the dog, SET deputies located a vehicle in front of one of the homes, and inside there were two occupants in the vehicle sleeping.

K-9 Deputy Ivo was dispatched to conduct an exterior free air sniff around the vehicle, and he alerted to the presence of drug odor.

While deputies were dealing with the vehicle, another vehicle arrived on scene, which contained a female and the 57-year-old man.

Deputies told the female she was parked illegally, as she was more than 18” away from the curb.

K-9 Deputy Ivo was still on scene, and conducted an additional free air exterior sniff of the vehicle, which he once again alerted to the presence of drug odor at the second vehicle.

At the first vehicle, the other occupant initially stated there was marijuana in the vehicle, and deputies said they did not smell any marijuana.

Under the driver’s seat, deputies located a baggie containing a trace amount of methamphetamine.

In the second vehicle, deputies located a bottle of pills in the glove box, where the 57-year-old had been sitting. The bottle contained 9.5 pills, identified as Penicillin and 1 Clauvalante tablet, and there was no prescription available for either.

Deputies entered a casino and saw a “known heroin dealer” seated at a slot machine. While they watched, the 24-year-old walked up to the drug dealer on his right side and had a “brief contact.”

Deputies believed the 24-year-old to be under 21 and loitering in the casino.

The 24-year-old refused to provide ID to deputies, and sounded intoxicated. He attempted to leave the area, and continued to adjust his waistband and reach into his pockets.

Deputies told him to sit down, which at first, he complied with. However, suddenly and without direction from deputies, he stood up and attempted to walk away from the area.

Deputies told him to sit down, but he refused.

Deputies took him to the ground after he failed to comply with instructions. On his person, deputies located a knife in a nylon sheath on the side of his waist.
