Carson City woman jailed for child endangerment, DUI after wrecking car, leaving scene

A 34-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday night for suspicion of DUI, hit and run, obstructing and gross misdemeanor child endangerment, a sheriff's report states.

The woman was arrested at 10:50 p.m. in the 3400 block of Airport Road. According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to College Parkway and Nye Lane in reference to a single vehicle accident.

Deputies arrived and observed a Lexus sedan in the southbound number two travel lane. The front of the vehicle was facing northbound. The first deputy on scene stated that a chain link fence was damaged from the vehicle when it left the roadway traveling northbound.

Dispatch made contact with the registered owner who stated he had let the mother of his daughter borrow the vehicle. The female suspect resides in the 3400 block of Airport Road.

A reporting party (RP) stated she had video of a female and small child walking away from the vehicle that crashed. The deputy saw the video, which showed the female and a young child.

Deputies responded to the woman'a residence and noticed a young girl, a woman and a male subject walking from a vehicle. The officer identified, from the video, the woman and 7-year-old girl, the arrest report states.

The woman was unsteady on her feet, had red watery eyes and a strong odor of alcohol coming from her person as she spoke to the deputy. She began to use profanities at the officer and told her daughter that police are bad and to never trust the police, the report states.

The woman denied driving a vehicle or had borrowed the vehicle. A second deputy arrived on scene. The woman was asked to participate in a series of standardized field sobriety tests. The woman refused, the report states.

A deputy spoke with the man who was in the vehicle. He stated he received a phone call from the woman an hour earlier wanting to be picked up at a convenience store at the intersection of College Parkway and Highway 50.

The man stated he picked up the woman and her daughter and drove them back to his apartment. While at his apartment, he said the woman did not consume any alcohol and did not tell him why she needed a ride. The male stated he then drove back to the woman's apartment and that's when police made contact. He provided a witness statement.

The woman was placed into custody. A deputy went to handcuff the woman when she attempted to pull away and began using profanities toward both deputies on scene and then refused to get into the back of the patrol vehicle, the report states. As a deputy attempted to put a seat belt on the woman, she spit at the officer. She was taken to jail.

Deputies spoke with the child who was crying and emotional. She was not injured and confirmed that her mother was driving her dad's car. She did not remember the accident but remembered walking from the vehicle. She was later released to her father.

Investigating deputies went to the detention center where the woman continued to be uncooperative. She was read a request for voluntary evidence and was informed that if she refused, her license would be suspended for one year. The woman refused.

The deputy applied for and was granted a telephonic search warrant through a Carson City judge for a series of evidentiary blood draws. The woman was booked for suspicion of gross misdemeanor child endangerment and the following misdemeanors: DUI first offense, hit and run and obstructing. Bail: $4,823.

In other arrests:
— A 67-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of misdemeanor second DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a single vehicle rollover in the area of Deer Run Road.

Dispatch advised that the reporting party gave the sole occupant of the vehicle a ride to the vehicle owner's residence nearby.

Deputies responded to the residence and made contact with the man. His eyes were red, bloodshot and watery. His speech was slurred and an odor of alcohol was coming from his person. He was dripping in blood from numerous areas on his body, and was also dripping wet as he had exited a shower, the report states.

The deputy instructed the man to put on his clothes so he could conduct field sobriety tests. The man went into his bedroom, put on clothes and consumed a large amount of mouth wash, the arrest report states.

The deputy asked the man if he was driving the truck involved and he stated he was. He also stated he left the scene to clean up for deputies and the fire department, according to the arrest report.

Since the man was involved in the crash, he did not participate in the walk and turn or one leg stand portion of the field sobriety tests. He did, however, exhibit all six clues during the horizontal gaze nystagmus test. A deputy attempted to obtain a preliminary breath test but the man refused.

He was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI. He was read a request for voluntary evidence and verbally agreed to a blood draw. He was taken to the hospital for a blood draw and medical clearance. Three blood samples were taken. Deputies learned the man had been convicted of DUI in the past. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI second and leaving the scene of an accident. Bail: $3,274.
