Carson City crime log: Theft of motel towels leads to arrest for battery and drugs

A 49-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of felony drug possession and other charges after allegedly punching a motel manager who confronted her about stealing towels, a Carson City sheriff's deputy report said.

Tara Brooks Ellis-Goff was arrested in the area of North Carson and Sophia streets at 1:24 p.m.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to a motel for a reported battery. A deputy located the suspect on Sophia Street, spoke with her, where she agreed to a pat search. In the search a meth pipe was found, as well as two baggies with methamphetamine, according to the arrest report.

The deputy asked if she was involved in the battery. The woman replied she was. She said she was staying at the motel and had gotten into an argument with a manager.

Deputies spoke with the victim who confirmed there was an argument involving the suspect who was with another woman. The victim said the suspect and the other woman were stealing towels and she tried to stop them.

The victim said both women called her several racist names and that Ellis-Goff punched her in the chest. The victim said she punched back to defend herself after the other woman who was with the suspect had charged at her.

A hotel employee said he witnessed what happened and confirmed the victim's story. The suspect was arrested after deputies determined she was the primary aggressor. Bail: $7,540.

In other arrests:
— A 19-year-old Carson City woman was booked for felony violation of an extended protection order and suspicion of obtaining use of identification of another person. Sara McAlphin, who was being held at the Carson City Jail, was served with the charges Tuesday.

According to the arrest report, the woman had been served a protection order out of Carson City District Court on Dec. 11, 2018 with an expiration date of Dec. 11, 2019. The order was extended for stalking and harassment. The suspect was served this order in court.

On Tuesday, a Carson City deputy picked up a search warrant for the original case and then responded to the Carson City Library located at 900 North Roop Street to execute the warrant.

A deputy obtained a 10-page history of an account for a library patron, who identified herself with another name. The account was established August 23, 2018. The library photographs identifications of its patrons. The photograph of the subject that opened the account was McAlphin and not the person listed.

On Jan. 25, four DVDs were check out of the library under the account. The items were not returned to the library by the due date.

Based on the information after the search warrant was executed, the deputy responded to the detention facility where the additional charges of violation of the extended protection order and obtaining and using the ID of another person, were added to other charges. Bail: $35,000.

— A Carson City woman was arrested Tuesday in the area of East Fifth and Airport Road for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, failure to maintain a lane, and gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription.

According to the arrest report a deputy was dispatched to the area regarding a single vehicle accident. The deputy arrived on scene and observed a vehicle that traveled approximately 10 yards into the sagebrush. A deputy observed the woman appeared disoriented and did not know where she was at. She stated she was not injured and did not want medical assistance, the arrest report states.

The deputy asked the woman for her identification on two separate occasions. She replied that she already gave her identification. The deputy didn't smell an odor of alcohol and the woman denied she had consumed any type of alcohol.

The officer asked the woman to step out of the vehicle. The officer observed the woman could not keep her balance and was swaying back and fourth. The deputy also observed her pupils were extremely constricted. The woman stated she had taken prescribed morphine for pain in the lower body two hours prior. She was asked if she would be willing to participate in a series of field sobriety tests. She was arrested for suspicion of DUI drugs, the arrest report states.

She was taken to the hospital for medical clearance and was read a request for voluntary evidence and agreed to give a blood sample, the arrest report states. She was released from the hospital and taken to the detention center.

During the intake search an Ibuprofen pill bottle was discovered inside the woman's purse. Inside the bottle were eight 15mg Oxycodone pills that she stated did not belong to her and were her friend's, according to the arrest report. She was booked for suspicion of DUI drugs first offense, failure to maintain a lane, and possession of dangerous drugs without a prescription. Total bail amount listed: $3,769.

— A 27-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Wednesday morning in the 2100 block of East William Street for a misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence warrant, issued June 30, 2017 out of Carson City Justice Court. Bail: $1,000.

— A 37-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 6:38 a.m. in the 1600 block of Medical Parkway for misdemeanor court warrants of violation of alternative sentencing conditions and a contempt of court. Bail: $4,000.

— A 21-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 7:12 p.m. in the area of Pheasant Drive for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, the man became verbally abusive with family members, alleging kicking one of them, a male, in the groin and chest.

The suspect admitted he grabbed and pushed the victim. He claimed he was choked during the scuffle but deputies investigating saw no signs of injuries on the suspect. The victim said he did try to hold down the suspect by the shoulders and never touched his neck. Bail: $3,137.
