Heavenly resort at Lake Tahoe opens Nevada side Stagecoach Express
Cooler temps in the Sierra above Lake Tahoe have allowed Heavenly Mountain Resort to utilize the West Coast’s largest snowmaking system in order to expand terrain and open Stagecoach Express on Saturday, offering a second access point to the mountain, as well as top-to-bottom skiing and riding on the Nevada side.
“These cooler temps have come at a crucial time, allowing us to expand terrain during the holiday period and provide a second base area and access point to the mountain,” said Pete Sonntag, vice president and COO of Heavenly. “Looking forward, we hope to offer limited operations at the base of the California side for beginner skiers and riders, and if these ideal weather conditions continue, should have access to more terrain open for the public soon.”
Heavenly is currently operating nine lifts accessing 14 freshly-groomed trails and 6.4 skiable miles of terrain, including lower Olympic Downhill. The resort’s famous tubing hill is open with four lanes for guests 42” and taller, and for children under 42”, Heavenly offers two lanes of sledding at the top of the Gondola at Adventure Peak. Heavenly is currently operating its free bus shuttle for guests on both the California and Nevada side, providing free parking at the California, Stagecoach and Boulder base areas.
Guests are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance online at www.snow.com/epicday.
On Sunday, Heavenly plans to open the DMZ Carpet, a beginner learning area at the base of the California side, for adult and children first-time ski and ride lessons only. Heavenly is making snow on the upper California side, and if snowmaking conditions continue, Heavenly anticipates opening it for skiing and riding late next week.
Heavenly is in the midst of its holiday celebration with Heavenly Holidays underway. Professional ice skating shows, ice carving and a New Year’s Eve extravaganza round out the festivities, and a detailed schedule is available here.
Bypass the Ticket Lines
Heavenly, Kirkwood and Northstar are offering up to 25% savings on advanced purchase lift tickets this season via the new EpicDay Lift Tickets platform, now available across all Vail Resorts. Tickets can be purchased through an easy-to-use online and mobile site, www.snow.com/epicday, and picked up at a designated EpicDay Express Ticket Pick-Up lane at each resort. Once the ticket is picked up, guests can keep their ticket and load it with more days online, avoiding a return trip to the ticket window. EpicDay Lift Tickets rewards advanced planning, even if the purchase is made while walking up to the resort, with more savings and less time spent in the ticket line.
