It's Your City with Carson City Ward One Supervisor Karen Abowd
In this week's edition of It's Your City, Carson City Ward 1 Supervisor Karen Abowd provides an update on the actions taken by the Board of Supervisors at its Thursday, Dec. 4 meeting.
Among the items, the board: Approved Anthony Fish as the liquor manager for Sassafras, LLC. A liquor was granted at the new location, 1500 Old Hot Springs Road.
— Held a public hearing and approved a Reduction of Area, Extension of Term and Restatement of Carson City Airport Lease Agreement regarding the airport lease with Shadetree Aviation.
— Approved a contract to provide professional services for the design development and construction bidding assistance for the animal control facility. The second phase of this project is Step 2 and 3, which includes: architectural design and development, construction documents preparation, contractor bidding assistance and administration of construction contract. Construction has been bumped up for a December 2015 completion.
— Denied proposed amendment that would make the Master Plan Land Use designation consistent with adjacent Rural Residential properties to the east in preparation for ultimate disposal of the property by the state. The site in question is located south of Highway 50 West at Lake Tahoe Golf Course Drive.
— Reviewed and accepted findings in an Employee Efficiency Study by Moss Adams.
Abowd also noted the fifth annual Cookies with Santa, a benefit for Ron Wood Family Resource Center’s holiday fund, on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Café at Adele’s. Children of all ages are invited to enjoy complimentary hot cider, hot chocolate, coffee and cookies, visit with and have their picture taken with Santa, while helping provide Christmas for children in need.
Ron Wood collaborates with the community in assisting the people of Carson City, without having to provide eligibility requirements, in obtaining fundamental needs including emergency food supplies. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children. Every adult is asked to bring an unwrapped gift.
