Nevada Humane Society volunteer program launches Saturday in Carson City
Volunteers. They’re a cornerstone to our involvement in the community, allowing us to save even more lives and bring people and pets together. Volunteers provide support at the shelter and at numerous events, assist with administrative work, walk dogs and much, much more — such as the volunteer who went above and beyond to save a litter of three kittens who were stuck in a drain pipe near the southern end of Carson City.
These adorable babies were heard meowing and she took the time to singlehandedly remove them from the drain, one by one. Lucky for us, they were doing ok and just needed a warm home. Now, they’re in foster care getting the TLC they so deserve until they are big enough for adoption. Because of a volunteer, these three tiny kittens are here today, symbolizing that with Nevada Humane Society’s expansion into Carson City, the need for volunteers is even greater.
Beginning in November, a monthly volunteer orientation will take place in Carson City, specifically to recruit volunteer talent in the Carson area for the Carson shelter. The orientations will provide basic training and offer volunteer opportunities on the spot. Volunteers must be at least 10 years old and must offer a minimum time commitment to the program.
The first volunteer orientation for Carson City will take place on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Community Center Gymnasium, at 851 E William Street. Anyone interested is welcome to attend and volunteer applications will be taken at the orientation. For future orientations, those interested must apply in advance.
