Carson City and Lake Tahoe area road report for week of Oct. 3-9

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Oct. 3-9, 2016. Work will continue on the Downtown Corridor improvement project on Carson Street. The following streets will be impacted:

— Carson Street will be closed from south of William to the north side of Robinson 24 hours a day, all week.
— Thursday and Friday Carson Street will also be closed between Musser and 7th Street, including all the associated side streets, between Curry and Plaza. Business access will be available between Robinson and Musser streets.

Days of closures subject to change due to weather issues. Downtown businesses are open during construction. For details regarding traffic impacts, including a road closure, please refer to the material provided in local media outlets or go to carsonproud.com for more information. These sources are updated weekly throughout the duration of the project.

Lane closures with traffic controls are at the following locations due to utility and road work:
— Robinson Street westbound lane, between Fall and Stewart Streets will be closed, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
— Center Drive between Clearview Drive and Koontz Lane, Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Highway 395 between Old Clear Creek Road and Snyder Avenue will have single lane closures, Tuesday through Thursday, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
— Highway 395 between Old Clear Creek Road and Snyder Avenue will have a single northbound lane closed between, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
— North Edmunds Drive between Fairview and Brown streets, will be reduced to one lane, Monday and Tuesday, 6 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Road closures expected at the following locations due to utility and road work. Please follow detours:
— Panamint Road and Sherman Lane intersection closed, Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
— Topsy Lane between Center Drive and Highway 395, Monday through Sunday, for all hours, local traffic only.
— Bigelow Drive will be closed to through traffic at Snyder Avenue, all week, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The following road Lake Tahoe and Sierra report from Caltrans for the week of Oct. 2-8, 2016: State Route 89 (Placer County): Work continues on a $70.1 million project from Tahoma to just north of Granlibakken Road in Tahoe City that is upgrading storm water drainage and treatment systems, adding curb and gutter, resurfacing and realigning the road, adding new left-turn pockets and widening shoulders on an 8-mile stretch of the highway. Completion is expected by summer 2017.

State Route 89 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $13 million water quality improvement project from Cascade Road to the Eagle Falls Viaduct over Emerald Bay. The project is constructing new drainage facilities to treat stormwater runoff and repaving a four-mile section of the highway. Completion is expected in spring 2017.

State Route 28 (Placer County): Work continues on Placer County’s $50 million Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project from State Route 267 to Chipmunk Street. Highway work includes installing curb and gutter, sidewalks, roundabouts, lighting and drainage systems to enhance pedestrian and bicycle mobility, improve safety and provide water-quality improvements. Completion is expected this fall.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Brace Road to Magra Road: Work is nearly completed on the $36 million project which increased the vertical clearance of nine bridge structures in south Placer County to 16 feet, 6 inches. The vertical clearance was increased on seven structures by lifting the existing bridge deck and the other two had the roadway below dug down.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) in a one-mile section under and adjacent to the Brace Road overcrossing: Eastbound and westbound motorists can expect alternating lane closures as electrical sensors are installed in the roadway. No traffic interfering work scheduled for this week.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Long Ravine underpass to .2 miles east of Magra Road overcrossing: Roadwork begins for the 2.5 year, $50.6 million project to construct @ 3 miles of additional ‘truck climbing lane’ and other improvements to primarily eastbound I-80 east of Colfax including widening the Cape Horn undercrossing bridge.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) at the Cape Horn Undercrossing Bridge: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls for around-the-clock alternating lane closures from June 20 throughout the summer for bridge work.

Interstate 80 - Eastbound (Placer County) from Hwy 174/I-80 junction to Secret Town overcrossing (Magra & Alpine): Motorists can expect overnight right lane and shoulder closures from 6 p.m. to 11 a.m. Monday through Thursday, and from midnight Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday, October 3-7 for roadway excavation.

State Route 49 (Nevada County) from Crestview Drive to Smith Road: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, October 2 for guardrail repair.

State Route 49 (Sierra County) from Oak Valley Road to Yuba Pass summit: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday October 3-6 for miscellaneous work.

Interstate 80 (Nevada County) from just east of Donner Summit to just west of Kingvale undercrossing: Motorists can expect intermittent right lane and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. beginning Monday, Oct. 3, eastbound or Tuesday, westbound and ending Thursday, Oct. 6, eastbound or Friday, Oct. 7, westbound for tree work.

Interstate 80 (Placer County) at the Roseville Parkway overcrossing: Motorists can expect overnight closure of the left lane of the Parkway over I-80 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through 5 a.m., Friday, Oct. 3-7 for bridge work.

Interstate 80 - Westbound (Placer County) at Darling Way (between Sunrise Avenue and Cirby Way: Motorists can expect overnight right shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 3 a.m. Monday through Friday, Oct. 3-7 for electrical work.

Interstate 80 – Westbound (Nevada County) at the Castle Peak on-ramp to westbound I-80: Motorists can expect full ramp closure from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday through 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4-7 for tree work.

Interstate 80 – Eastbound (Nevada County) from Truckee River to the EB Floriston off-ramp: Motorists can expect right lane and shoulder closures from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday Oct. 3 for k-rail installation.

Interstate 80 – Eastbound (Placer County) at the Hwy 65 interchange: Motorists can expect daytime and overnight right shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 3 a.m. Monday through 3 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3-7 for electrical work.

State Route 89 (Placer County) from Squaw Creek to Pole Creek Road: Motorists can expect one way traffic controls for right lane closures from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 5-6 for grinding and paving.

State Route 267 (Nevada County) at the intersection of Highway 267 and Old Brockway Road: Motorists can expect alternating lane and shoulder closures from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 5-6 for grinding and paving.

State Route 193 (Placer County) from Fowler Road to Rainbow Valley Lane: Motorists can expect around the clock, 24-hour one way traffic control and right shoulder restrictions from 6 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 2 to 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8 for highway construction.

On the morning of Saturday, May 11, volunteers will fan out across the Truckee River watershed to collect and test water samples from creeks, streams, smaller lakes, and Lake Tahoe itself to take a “snapshot” of water quality at a single moment in time for this important source of drinking water and outdoor recreation.

A 44-year-old man was arrested Saturday for suspicion of unlawful occupancy of real property and violation of a suspended sentence, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report. The man was occupying the home of a deceased person without permission.

UPDATE 3:11 PM: The fire in the 1400 block of Monte Rosa Drive was contained to the garage and was knocked down quickly, according to CCFD Battalion Chief Jon Pedrini. The fire did not extend to the main structure. No one was home and there were no injuries. The cause is under investigation.

Carson City Fire Department and sheriff's deputies were called late Monday morning to a structure fire in the 1400 block of Monte Rosa Drive.

For years, advocates have called upon presidential administrations to reclassify marijuana or deschedule it entirely from the DEA’s list of controlled substances.

Firefighters in Yerington and the Lyon County Sheriff's Office are on scene Monday morning of a semi truck rollover on Aiazzi Lane and Miller Road in Yerington. The entire area is closed to all traffic.
