Carson City arrests: Driver booked for suspected DUI, child endangerment
A 46-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday in the area of South Curry and Fourth Street for suspicion of gross misdemeanor child endangerment and misdemeanor DUI, a sheriff's deputy report states.
According to the booking report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to look for a possible DUI driver on South Curry Street. Dispatch advised a reporting party stated the driver had a child in the vehicle, was driving into oncoming traffic and failing to maintain a lane of travel.
A deputy located the vehicle heading northbound on South Curry Street and made a traffic stop. The officer observed the child sitting in the front passenger seat. The officer informed the male driver the reason for the stop. The officer asked the man if he had been drinking alcohol. The driver stated he had not been drinking alcohol. Then he admitted he had 3 alcoholic drinks at Lake Tahoe, the report states.
While speaking with the driver, the officer observed glassy eyes and a moderate odor of alcohol coming from his breath. The officer asked the man to exit the vehicle, in which the driver stumbled while getting out, the report states.
The driver agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. The man told the deputy that he had three beers and 2 orange alcohol drinks at a Tahoe beach. He was asked if he had used marijuana or drugs. The man stated he took one drag of marijuana, the report states.
The driver submitted to a preliminary breath test with a result of .121 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI and child endangerment for operating a vehicle while being allegedly impaired with his son in the vehicle.
A deputy remained on scene until a guardian was able to pick up the child. At jail he provided evidentiary breath tests with results of .091 and .087. Bail: $3,637.
