Carson City sheriff's deputies make arrests for alleged assault, DUI and drug incidents

A 55-year-old Carson City man was arrested June 30 for suspicion of battery with a deadly weapon, a Carson City Sheriff's Office report states.

Anthony George Athens was taken into custody at 5:50 a.m. following a June 26 incident in which a pocket knife was pulled out and allegedly cut the hand of a man he was friends with. Bail: $30,000.

In other arrests:
— A 23-year-old transient, David Sesler, was arrested July 2, 10 p.m. for suspicion of felony assault with a deadly weapon, a violation of parole and probation and gross misdemeanor possession of a dangerous drug without a script. Bail: $22,500.

— A 27-year-old Carson City woman, Ashlee Nicole Karow, was arrested July 3, 11:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of South Carson Street for a felony warrant alleging she obtained money under false pretenses and uttered a forged instrument. Bail: $10,000.

— A 39-year-old transient, Jacob Fearn, was arrested July 2, in the area of Ann and Curry streets for suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, a felony, and three misdemeanor offenses: possession of drug paraphernalia, a department of alternative sentencing violation and being an ex-felon failing to register. Bail: $2,637.

— A 32-year-old Stagecoach woman was arrested July 2 for five counts gross misdemeanor suspicion of child endangerment. According to the arrest report, deputies were called to a location to check on a woman reportedly under the influence, hallucinating, who was caring for her small children and an infant in which she reportedly nearly dropped several times.

Through the course of the investigation, deputies spoke with the woman, who showed signs of being under the influence, who could not stay awake or focused during the course of interviews. She admitted having used methamphetamine two days prior and had extreme fatigue. It was determined the woman could not take care of her young children and a nephew, the arrest report states.

The woman was booked without incident. Child Protective Services was contacted and responded to the location. Bail: $2,637.

— A 69-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 1:54 a.m. in the 300 block of East William Street for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI.

According to the arrest report, the woman was a driver in an accident in a fast food drive through, in which she rear-ended the victim's vehicle.

The woman agreed to field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. She provided a preliminary breath test of .155 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI. Bail; $1,137.

— A 27-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday, 3:27 a.m. for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and misdemeanor hit and run of an unoccupied vehicle causing property damage.

According to the arrest report, the woman allegedly hit a parked vehicle on Thompson Street and fled the scene. She was located a few blocks away on Circle Drive after a deputy spoke with a witness who observed the vehicle leaving the area.

The woman admitted she had been drinking, apologized for hitting the vehicle, and sobbed as she spoke with a deputy. She agreed to standardized field sobriety tests. She provided a preliminary breath test of .166 and was arrested. Bail: $1,774.

— A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday, July 4, 10:37 p.m. in the northbound lane of I-580, for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI. According to the arrest report, the man was stopped for driving 85 mph in a posted 65 mph zone.

The man was asked if he had been drinking. He said he had a few beers earlier in the day at a barbecue. He agreed to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment. He was arrested for suspicion of DUI. He was read a request for voluntary evidence to which he denied, the arrest report states. A warrant was granted by a Carson City Judge based on probable cause during the DUI investigation. The man's blood was drawn and booked into evidence. Bail: $1,137.

— A 30-year-old transient, Stephen Kenneth Bartro, was arrested July 3, for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and four misdemeanors: possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a valid license, driving an offload vehicle on a public roadway and obstructing.

According to the arrest report, the man was riding a four-wheel ATV on a public road, westbound on Clearview. He did not have a license plate or any other registration sticker on the vehicle.

During the course of the investigation, the man provided a different name, social security and birthday than his own, the arrest report states. A K9 did a sniff and alerted positive to the odor of narcotics.

The man was asked if he had anything illegal on his person. He said there was a baggie in his wallet and that it either contained methamphetamine or cocaine. He was arrested. A baggie with a substance was located as was a methamphetamine pipe. Bail: $4,341.

UPDATE THURSDAY: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who died Wednesday morning following the two vehicle crash on I-580 in Carson City. They are Alejandra Hernandez Valtierra, 36, and Viola Santoyo Huizar, 48, both of Carson City.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.
