Supervisor Schuette to speak at Democratic luncheon

Event Date:
April 8, 2024 - 1:00pm

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Lisa Schuette, who has held the Ward 4 seat on the Carson City Board of Supervisors since 2021. She is currently seeking reelection to another four year term. In addition to her service on the board, Lisa is also a member of the Audit Committee, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC), the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), the Board of Health, the Redevelopment Authority, the Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee, and the Parks and Recreation Commission.

Additionally, last year she served on the NACo National Housing Taskforce, which brings together county government officials from across the nation to illuminate critical housing challenges and opportunities from the county government perspective.

In 2012 Lisa founded the Carson Animal Services Initiative (CASI), spearheading the effort to build and equip the new animal shelter, which at 10,955 square feet is large enough to provide ample space for all the animals and staff. The shelter can accommodate 134 dogs, 104 cats, and seven exotics. It includes adoption meet-and-greet areas, play areas, and a spay/neuter clinic. The Nevada Humane Society manages the facility, ensuring a no-kill policy and high-quality care for the animals. CASI is currently working with local veterinarians to help low-income pet owners spay/neuter their pets through the organization's Critter Fixer program. Overall, the new shelter is a testament to CASI's extraordinary accomplishments and the local community’s commitment to animal welfare.

Lisa is excited about participating in Carson City’s Master Plan update, seeing the process as a great opportunity for community members to share their ideas to reflect everyone’s vision. She has prioritized investment in safety and city infrastructure, including the building of a new fire station, and updating the Quill Water Treatment Plant. She has pledged to continue to focus on infrastructure needs in order to meet our neighborhood road preservation challenges.

Born and raised in Carson City, Lisa graduated from Carson High School and the University of Nevada, Reno with a Bachelor of Science in English. She has served the community as a Sheriff’s Deputy, Juvenile Probation Officer and Middle School Health Teacher. In 2009 she was honored as the Nevada Department of Education HIV Educator of the Year, and Carson City Teacher of the Year in 2013. In 2018 she was named by Northern Nevada Business Weekly as one of Northern Nevada’s Top 20 Powerful Women, and was celebrated as one of 2024's Women of Distinction by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce. Married to husband Steve for 35 years, the Schuettes share their home with their dog Hank.

This event is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Monday, April 8th, and can be attended either in person at Black Bear Diner, inside Max Casino, or online via Zoom. Supervisor Schuette's presentation will begin after all the lunch orders have been taken, around 1:30. Those wishing to be on distribution for luncheon Zoom links should contact Rich Dunn at richdunn@aol.com.
