Supervisors to consider Carson City Center Project next week
Carson City leaders will learn next week whether the proposed Carson City Center, also known as the Nugget Project, is financially viable and may vote on whether to move forward with development agreements.
Thursday's meeting of the Board of Supervisors is a culmination of many months of studies, public meetings, workshops and a citizen's advisory committee. Supervisors will hear the results and recommendations of the project at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17 in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 East William Street.
P3 Development Inc. was contracted to in June 2010 to determine the feasibility of building the Carson City Center Project consisting of a Knowledge and Discovery Library, a business incubator, a central outdoor plaza, a public transit hub, a digital media lab, a parking structure, office space, retail space, evening entertainment venue, residential space, public improvements and infrastructure, and a hotel and/or event center.
The recommendation expressed in the PR Development Inc. study is the result of discussions and analysis with staff, the Nugget Project Citizens Advisory Committee and the City's financial and bonding consultants.
Supervisors will decide wither to direct city staff to negotiate design development agreements with P3 Development Inc. for the public portions (the Knowledge and Discovery Library, a central outdoor plaza, a parking structure, and public improvements and infrastructure of the project.
According to a financial project feasibility plan released in November 2010, the project would be funded through several public and private mechanisms, including a 1/8th cent city sales tax and tax increment financing.
