Statewide partnership seeks entrepreneurs, startups for rural Nevada virtual pitch competition

CARSON CITY —The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development is partnering with StartUpNV, Entrepreneur’s Assembly, Northeastern Nevada Regional Development Authority, business leaders, and other government entities, in a new statewide initiative to foster entrepreneurship in Nevada’s smaller cities and towns.

A Joint Operating Agreement is currently under review between the Carson City Library, the Northern Nevada Development Authority, and Adams Hub, to create and manage a “Business Retention and Expansion” program.

At the Board of Supervisor’s meeting on Aug. 1, a presentation was held to discuss a possible joint contract between the three entities, for the creation of a Business Retention and Expansion program, which would be funded by the Hop and Mae Adams Foundation.

Adams Hub for innovation is celebrating the opening of The Studio at Adams Hub, a new collaboration and event space. The community is invited to the launch party, which will be on Wednesday, August 3, from 5-7 p.m.

The approximately 1,500 square foot, multi-purpose facility is being added to the business incubator and co-working habitat, and will be host to classes, workshops and community events, including a new chapter of the award-winning Nevada entrepreneur and business-mentoring organization, Entrepreneurs Assembly.

The Hop and Mae Adams Foundation was joined by local dignitaries to break ground Wednesday on a much-anticipated, mixed-use project in Carson City’s downtown historic district.

Dozens gathered throughout the day Friday to see creativity and innovation in action at the TEDx debut in Carson City, held inside the Brewery Arts Center's Black Box Theater.

Sixteen speakers were selected for the 2016 program, ranging in age from 16 to 70 years old. Of those, eleven speakers are local in Carson City, the Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Susanville. Five others have local ties to Nevada.
