Carson City Sheriff's Office crime report: Deputies make arrests for domestic battery, DUIs

A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday in the 4300 block of South Carson Street for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, hit and run and driving without insurance, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to a single vehicle injury crash where the driver left on foot. Officers tracked him down, observed he had a bloody nose and smelled of alcohol. He told the officer that a “buddy” was driving the vehicle.

When the officer asked who the friend was, the man would not give a name. He said he was not going to tell on his buddy, the arrest report states. The deputy asked if he was driving the vehicle. The man looked at the officer, paused and told him to do what he needed to do. The officer asked again and the man repeated his same statement.

He was arrested at 8:36 p.m. on suspicion for DUI and accident hit and run. At jail he refused to take a breath test and completed a blood draw. Bail: $2,496.

In other arrests:
— A 44-year-old Reno woman was arrested Tuesday, 2:15 a.m. in the 2100 block of East William Street for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, the woman and her boyfriend got into an argument over a motel room key. Security at the hotel casino advised they observed the woman attacking the man. Bail: $3,137.

— A 29-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 1:30 a.m. in the 1900 block of North Carson Street for gross misdemeanor suspicion of possession of burglary tools. Bail: $2,500.

— A 19-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday, 5:46 a.m. in the area of South Curry and Rhoades for gross misdemeanor suspicion of a dangerous drug without a prescription, minor consuming and DUI first offense.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the area for a report of a single vehicle crash. The officer met with the driver and could smell an odor of alcohol coming from him. The driver also showed signs of impairment. He was asked to submit to field sobriety tests. The officer observed enough clues to arrest him. At jail he submitted to evidentiary breath tests of .121 and .115.

During the intake search at jail the man was in possession of a plastic bag containing Alprazolam pills, which he does not have a prescription. Bail: $3,879.

— A 30-year-old Carson City woman, Tanesha Jean Wiggins, was arrested Jan. 8, 8:58 a.m. in the 1700 block of North Carson Street for felony suspicion of battery with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, officers were called to a motel room and met with the victim and female suspect. The woman was hostile when officers arrived, picking up a wood handle putty knife and throwing it against the wall away from officers and the victim. She was detained in a patrol car while officers investigated.

Deputies learned the woman and her boyfriend were in an argument and that she allegedly threw several items around the residence and at him, including a putty knife in which she grabbed and swung at the victim, the arrest report states. He said he was hit in the buttocks with the putty knife but there was no physical injury.

He said during the altercation, the woman struck him several times with both open and closed hands. He displayed a swollen bump on his head above his left eye in which the man said was from when the woman punched or slapped him.

Deputies spoke with two independent witnesses who said they saw the altercation and gave similar accounts of the incident that the victim gave officers. A deputy attempted to interview the woman regarding the incident. She refused, however, saying that she was sorry and wouldn’t do it again. Bail: $35,137.

— A 69-year-old Carson City man was arrested Jan. 8, 3:32 p.m. in the 1600 block of Buzzy’s Ranch Road for misdemeanor contempt of court and violation of a suspended sentence. Officers arrived at the home and located the man who had a "no contact" court order. He also had been drinking, a violation of conditions through the Department of Alternative Sentencing. Bail: $6,000.

— A 21-year-old Reno woman was arrested Jan. 8, 1:14 a.m. in the area of Idaho and Fairview streets for misdemeanor suspicion of DUI and speeding. The woman was stopped for speeding and showed signs of impairment. She provided a preliminary breath test of .158. Bail: $1,229.

— A 31-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Jan. 7, 10:27 p.m. at Carson Tahoe Hospital for three counts suspicion of battery on a health care provider. The suspect was combative with medical staff, kicking and striking them. Bail: $7,500.

— A 33-year-old Carson City man, Hamilton Chase Ford, was booked into jail Jan. 7, 6:20 p.m. for a felony fugitive from justice warrant issued out of Shasta County, Calif.

— A 32-year-old man, Ray Timothy Lee, was arrested Jan. 7, at Carson and 8th Street for felony suspicion of home invasion. According to the arrest report, the man went to the home of his former girlfriend and was asked to leave.

The man went to the back door, allegedly reached his hand through the dog door and unlocked it, the arrest report states. He couldn’t open the door because it was water logged and so he kicked the door causing it to open. He retrieved a dog and left through the front door. The back door was not damaged by forcibly opened, the arrest report states. The incident was witnessed by friends of the woman inside the home, according to the report. Bail: $25,000.

— A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Jan. 6, 1:39 a.m. in the 1900 block of G Street for three counts gross misdemeanor suspicion of child endangerment, misdemeanor DUI and violation of court supervision.

According to the arrest report, deputies were called to investigate possible child endangerment, with the woman reportedly driving in a bar and leaving children in a vehicle.

Deputies observed the woman driving and followed her and observed her pull into her residence driveway. A deputy made contact with the vehicle and observed three children, two four-year-olds and a 5-year-old, in the rear of the vehicle. While speaking with the woman the deputy observed an odor of alcohol on her breath, slurred speech and red, watery eyes. The woman stated she had two alcoholic beverages 10 minutes prior to driving, the arrest report states.

She submitted to standardized field sobriety test showing signs and symptoms of being under the influence. She provided a preliminary breath test of .197 and was arrested. The woman was also on Alternative Sentencing. At jail she provided evidentiary tests of .161 and .154. Bail: $9,548.

UPDATE 6 p.m.: Courtesy of the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office: On May 3, 2024 at approximately 1430 hours, Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputies responded along with Central Lyon County, Carson City and Storey County Fire personnel to the area of 34 Newman Ln. for a report of motorhome on fire. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the fire had spread and multiple other abandoned vehicles caught fire as well. No one was hurt or injured during the incident. The incident is currently under investigation, which is being conducted by the Nevada State Fire Marshall’s Division.

UPDATE 2:38 p.m.: Firefighters from Storey are also now responding.

UPDATE 2:33 p.m.: Multiple vehicles on the property are engulfed in flame.

Around 2:15 p.m. a fire was reported at 34 Newman Lane in Mound House.

Firefighters from Carson City and Lyon County are enroute to the scene.

UPDATE 1:20 p.m.: According to Sheriff Ken Furlong, a student reported they saw a weapon. The incident was investigated and there was no weapon found. The lockdown has now been lifted and students are leaving the school.

UPDATE 1:15 p.m.: Update 05-03-24 at 1:15 p.m.
One student has reported an alleged weapon sighting. It has not been corroborated, but school officials and the sheriff’s office are investigating out an abundance of caution.

UPDATE 12:50 p.m.: The following update was provided by the district:

Carson High School was put on lockdown this afternoon around 12:15 p.m. No person was injured. There is an active situation being investigated in cooperation with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office. We will provide more information as it becomes known. The school is secure. Do not go to the school. No entrances will be permitted at time. The district will provide updates every 30 minutes. Expect the next update at 1:15 p.m.

Carson High School is currently on a lockdown as of 12:40 p.m. Friday, but there has been no incident reported according to Sheriff Ken Furlong.

More than 48 Carson High School Future Business Leaders of America students attended the state conference in Sparks, Nev. this past week. In total, 38 of those students earned 74 “Top-10” placements in 30 separate events. Additionally, three CHS FBLA students took state with first-place finishes and 15 of them qualified for the National Business Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla. this coming June.
