Vegas Culture on the Rise
On Wednesday, October 18, the Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] will present a talk by curator Michele Quinn. Her illustrated talk, "Vegas Culture on the Rise", is part of CCAI’s ongoing Nevada Neighbors series and will take place at 7pm at the Community Development building [the Brick], 108 E Proctor St, Carson City. There will be an informal reception for Quinn preceding the event at 6:15pm. The presentation and reception are free, and the public is cordially invited.
In her talk, "Vegas Culture on the Rise", Quinn will give an overview of Las Vegas’ vibrant art scene. Since 2003, Las Vegas has had tremendous growth in the visual arts. She will discuss the progress Las Vegas has made in public art over the past 10 years and current developments, both public and private. She will explore the significant installations and art events that have occurred all over the city and surrounding areas.
Over the past 20 years, Quinn, has built a career as a gallerist and private art consultant, specializing in post-war and contemporary art. As owner of MCQ Fine Art Advisory, she has served as a curatorial advisor for some the largest public/corporate contemporary art collections in the United States.
After moving to New York in 1992, Quinn obtained both a Masters in Arts Administration from New York University and an MBA in Finance and Marketing from Fordham University. Her professional career began in 1992 with an internship at the Leo Castelli Gallery, subsequently acquiring positions in the New York art world, including Associate Director at Gemini GEL at Joni Weyl (1994), Vice President/Senior Specialist at Christie’s auction house (1998), and Director of Brooke Alexander Gallery (1999).
After 11 years in New York City, Michele returned to her childhood residence of Las Vegas in 2003 to explore new avenues and business opportunities for her contemporary art interests, where she broke new ground elevating the city’s status as a cultural arts destination.
Beginning in 2006, Michele proposed and began developing the $40 million art program for CityCenter-Las Vegas. In 2016, she co-curated the Nevada Museum of Art’s Tilting the Basin exhibition, a survey of contemporary art in Nevada.
