Local author publishes first book
“John Walker had always known he’d have to come back. No one runs away from a past like his and just walks away clean. Not in the books he’d written or the script he’d just finished. He didn’t blame his wife for being furious with him.”
This is the opening paragraph of local author Jeani Ambrose’s first published book, Legacy of the Father. Legacy can best be described as a paranormal mystery with romantic overtones.
Legacy is set in Virginia City, Nevada. Ambrose’s writing style makes the settings described in the book, instantly recognizable to anyone who’s visited this historic mining town.
John Walker's nearly perfect fairy tale life imploded with one intercepted phone call. As the illusion he'd built crumbled around him, the ghosts he'd spent years running from resurfaced with a vengeance. The pain of betrayal in his wife Brooke's eyes is more than he can bear. He'd built his marriage on lies and his children no longer trust him. In order to save his marriage and family, he has no choice but to return to Virginia City, Nevada, and the town full of ghosts that nearly destroyed him almost thirty years ago. The death of John's estranged father forces him to return to settle the estate. John discovers that his father, Charlie Walker died under mysterious circumstances and the family attorney is missing. He can no longer hide his psychic abilities from his family or himself.
As his hidden secrets come to light he reluctantly embarks on a journey of painful truths and self discovery. As each ghost is laid to rest, John begins to fully acknowledge his abilities he becomes closer to his family and the inner peace that he never believed possible.
When he finally admitsto himself that his young son is also psychic and has been visiting with John's deceased brother for a number of years, David, he discovers that his father, Charlie, was also psychic and drank to bury his own ghosts and demons. The discovery of a long buried body, the deception of a long time trusted family friend and the return of a missing loved one brings climax to this story of family loss and renewal of faith
Jeani Ambrose has been writing stories since she was a child relying upon her vivid imagination and life experiences. Many of the details in Legacy come from Ambrose’s experiences as a long-time professional psychic who reads for clients internationally. Due to her expertise in being able to 'read' the scenes of crimes from the victims’ eyes, law enforcement agencies nationwide have requested her assistance in solving difficult crimes.
Ambrose has resided in northern Nevada for the past 38 years since she married her husband, Mike. The Ambroses live outside Reno with their dogs and cats. Ambrose credits her husband for encouraging her to write.
Publishing Legacy became a family affair with Ambrose writing and publishing the book with the help of her three sons. Sean, an attorney in Las Vegas, assisted with the editing; Travis, a graphic artist, created the cover art and Paul, is the Web Master for Ambrose’s Web site (http://www.jeaniambrose.com/). Ambrose attributes her family’s encouragement and assistance in helping her realize her dream of becoming a published author.
When she is not writing or reading for people, Ambrose enjoys spending time with her six grandchildren. Ambrose’s second book, 'Haunted Whispers' is suspense and should be available sometime in 2012. Legacy of the Father is now also available in book form at amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com
