Douglas County woman shot in abdomen; brother injured in domestic dispute
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 04/22/2013 - 11:57amA 38-year-old Douglas County woman was shot in the abdomen following an argument Saturday night in the 1300 block of Waterloo Lane.
The woman and her 35-year-old brother, who had contusions to his head, were taken to the hospital and treated for injuries.

Deer Run Wild Horse Preservation Group at the Nevada Legislature

About 50 Carson City residents came together outside the Nevada Legislature today for a rally to raise awareness in the community for what has happened to the horses.
Coordinator Annie Jantzen says, "Even the Humane Society in Washington, DC is calling for the BLM to put these horses back on the range where they belong, and work with the community on solutions."

Car reported stolen in Carson City recovered, two arrested in Reno
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 01/23/2013 - 10:55amTwo people were arrested in Reno early Wednesday morning and face multiple felony charges after being found driving a car stolen from Carson City, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
Arrested were Samuel Phompadith, 31, and Jennifer Violet Peters, 30. Both are from Reno. The 1993 Honda Civic they had been driving had been originally reported stolen by the owner earlier this month to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

Minden man dies in head-on ATV accident on dirt road near the Pinenuts

The accident happened just before 9:30 a.m. on Sunrise Pass Road near Juniper Valley behind the Johnson Lane subdivision in the Pinenut Mountains.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies say the dune buggy, driven by Daniel Palmer, was speeding west on a dirt road when it slid and drifted head on into the path of an oncoming older Ford F-150.

NHP releases more details on Douglas County weekend fatal accidents on Highway 395

The accidents happened within a few hours of each other. The first accident, in which three people died, was reported at 11:45 p.m. Saturday night near Leviathan Mine Road on Highway 395.

Max Jones and Patti McMullan, who currently own and operate Flume Trail Bikes at Spooner Lake, have recently opened a new cafe at Tunnel Creek Station. The cafe is located on Tunnel Creek Road near the old Ponderosa Ranch which was used for filming the 1960s television western Bonanza. Douglas County authorities ask for help in locating couple wanted for questioning over unresolved murder
Submitted by editor on Thu, 09/06/2012 - 3:38pmAuthorities are asking the public for help in locating a couple wanted for questioning in the murder of Minnesota man whose remains were found in a shallow grave found earlier this year in a backcountry area of Douglas County.
The skeletal remains of Francisco Alejandro Lopez-Gonzalez, who was reported missing since May 2011 by family members, were discovered in a shallow grave on Feb. 22. His death was ruled a homicide.

Nevada Emergency Management, Homeland Security hold weekend multi-county drills

Operation Green Light will further develop and strengthen regional partnerships and enhance emergency preparedness, response, and prevention capabilities, according to Nevada Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Gail Powell. Participating counties include Carson City, Douglas, Elko, Humboldt, Lyon, Pershing, Storey and Washoe.
Douglas County authorities make arrests in Indian Hills vehicle burglary case
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Fri, 08/03/2012 - 12:37pmA Gardnervile man has been arrested and faces charges in connection with several vehicle burglaries last month in the Indian Hills area in north Douglas County. A 15-year-old male was also arrested.
Nathan Centeno, 18, was arrested on Thursday by Douglas County Sheriff's Office investigators. The arrest was made after an investigation following several vehicle burglaries that happened on July 10.

The film will be hosted by former state archivist Guy Rocha and Reno News and Review editor Dennis Myers. The movie was directed and produced in 1957 by Elia Kazan, and written by Budd Schulberg. This film, which launched Griffith into stardom in the lead role as Larry “Lonesome” Rhodes, also stars actors Patricia Neal, Anthony Franciosa, Walter Matthau, and Lee Remick.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office has issued a press release cautioning citizens to be aware of their surroundings due to a recent string of burglaries. The suspect (a hispanic female) is described as approximately 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 4 inches tall, thin, with medium length black or brown hair with possible blonde highlights. She is described as wearing a black backpack. She targets cash and small items such as jewelry, coin, and baseball cards during the daytime when the homeowners are at work.

TRE Fire grows to 6,600 acres

First Flume Trail Ride of the Year

Sheriff announces the incorporation of license plate reader technology

Sheriff Kenny Furlong has announced that he has authorized the installation of a license plate reader system (LPRS) in a patrol vehicle, to be operational this week. The LPRS system is expected to increase officer safety and productivity.
Details behind the new technology were not provided, but the LPRS is expected to be able to read license plates of vehicles in all weather conditions, day or night, at speeds of up to 140 miles per hour.

"There are many measures you can take to stay safe when off-road driving. These include the following:
1. Always wear protective gear to include a seat belt if in a vehicle.
2. Before you leave let someone know where you are going and how long you plan to be gone.
3. Make sure you have plenty of water.

The title of the talk is "Now and Then: a Pictorial Analysis of Carson City Changes." Mr. Block has collected numerous pictures of Carson City's Carson Street and downtown area from earlier periods, such as the 1950s and 1960s, and compares them to recent photos of the same locations. Incline Village runaway truck ramp claims another victim
Submitted by admin on Mon, 04/23/2012 - 8:50pmThe runaway truck ramp at the bottom of Mount Rose Highway in Incline Village was the scene of another tragedy today as a truck driver was killed trying to stop his vehicle using the ramp.
The Nevada Highway Patrol reports that the truck was carrying composite decking material on a flatbed trailer. The driver used the ramp to stop the vehicle, but the cargo broke loose and crushed the cab of the truck.
Nevada unemployment drops to 12 percent; Carson City down to 12.4
Submitted by admin on Fri, 04/20/2012 - 9:55amFigures released today by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation show the state's unemployment rate in March dropped to 12 percent overall, with Carson City down to 12.4 percent.
Unemployment dropped .3 percent statewide over the previous month, and 1.6 percent over the last year.
The jobs picture in Carson City, while showing improvement, is lagging slightly behind the statewide average, with a .2 percent drop in unemployment over February, and 1.1 percent drop over the last year.

Sheriff's Office to hold citizen Academy

The Carson City Sheriff's Office has announced that they will be holding their Citizen Academy beginning May 2. These academies are available several times a year to the public who are interested in learning how the Sheriff's Office operates. Classes will run from May 2 through June 20 and will be held from 6 p.m. through 9 p.m. Wednesday evenings at the Ormsby Room of the Sheriff's Office.
There is no charge for these classes. The deadline for completed applications is 5 p.m. April 27, 2012.

The annual Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Ceremony will be held at noon May 3, 2012, at the Nevada State Capitol. The ceremony will honor the 120 peace officers who have been killed in the line of duty in Nevada.
Three officers have been killed in the line of duty over the last year: Deputy Sheriff Jack D. London, Clark County Sheriff's Office; Special Agent Don C. Ware, US DEA, Las Vegas; and Correctional Officer Tracy A. Hardin, Nevada Department of Corrections.
The Annual Nevada Law Enforcement Memorial Run will begin on April 26.
