October Full Moon Hike up Prison Hill led by Carson City Parks and Rec this Saturday

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will host its October Full Moon Hike up Prison Hill on Saturday, Oct. 12 from 8:30 to 10 p.m., with the trail lit by the light of the moon.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the 30th annual Outhouse Races in Virginia City, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event in Carson City, Fright Night at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, Oktoberfest at the Casino Fandango, the 26th annual 'Making a Difference' Golf Tournament and much more!

Commemorative cups on sale as part of Sustainable Nevada Day

CARSON CITY — GreenUP!, a 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides environmental education to businesses announced that Nevada Day commemorative cups are now on sale for $10 at the Nevada Day store located at 716 N. Carson Street.

Heading into the first day of October 2019, events around the capital city include a morning walk, evening hike and a bike ride with Muscle Powered, a historic talk about Frank Sinatra's gaming license at Lake Tahoe, a "Think Pink" breast cancer awareness event at Red's Old 395 Grill, a showing of the film classic "Charade" at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

Support sought for horse protection fencing at Carson City's Centennial Park

Virginia Range Wildlife Protection Association is working with the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space to install a fence at Centennial Park. This fence will help keep the wild horses in the hills and off the golf course, softball fields and out of the businesses and neighborhoods as well.

Trails Association, Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space to host Prison Hill clean-up

The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department, with the Pine Nut Mountains Trails Association and the Nevada Off-Highway Vehicle Commission, is sponsoring a volunteer Clean-Up Day at the Prison Hill Recreation Area in the OHV Area. The public is invited to come out and help.

'Fall Tot Trot' teaches children to love the outdoors with Carson River scavenger hunt

This interpretive hike includes a scavenger hunt to learn about the Carson River habitat, and will help foster a love of exploring the outdoors!

Carson City Parks and Recreation to host 'Tales of Fire and Water' hike up Goni Canyon

Board of Supervisor's meeting to discuss several new Carson City subdivision plans

The upcoming Board of Supervisor’s meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center located at 851 E. William Street.

On the table for discussion are grant funding for the Sheriff’s Office, a new public guardian, and several new subdivision discussions.

C Hill has been restored thanks to Carson High students and volunteers

Over sixty volunteers showed up early Saturday morning to help Gabe Crossman, a 17-year-old senior at Carson High School and member of Troop 45, restore the “C” on C-Hill for his Eagle Scout and Senior Projects.

Temporary Schedule for the Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range begins Tuesday

CARSON CITY — In response to the seasonal transition affecting daylight hours, the Rifle and Pistol Range will temporarily change its hours to Tuesday through Friday, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting Sept. 10, 2019. Daylight hours are beginning to reflect the occurrence of seasonal change. To ensure adequate and safe accommodations for range enthusiasts the range must adopt the new operational hours.

Carson City's 3rd Annual BOO-nanza now accepting vendor applications from local businesses

Last year, approximately 1000 children participated and we expect a bigger crowd this year. In an effort to create a safe and family friendly Halloween experience, Carson City Park, Recreation & Open Space has partnered with the Carson City Library. The Community Center will be opened for trick or treating, haunted house, and outdoor carnival.

Carson City student to refresh 'C' on C-Hill as part of Eagle Scout, senior projects

CARSON CITY — Gabe Crossman, a 17-year-old senior at Carson High School and member of Troop 45, will be refreshing the “C" on C-Hill for his Eagle Scout and senior class projects Saturday, September 7, at 7 a.m. Seniors from the Class of 2019 moved the rocks to form “TJ3" in memory of their classmate Timmy Jones.

Carson City Parks Foundation receives Robert Z. Hawkins grant

Money begets money. And, that statement is true when it comes to the Carson City Parks & Recreation Foundation.

Recently, the Foundation was the recipient of a $20,000 matching grant from the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation to continue to refresh the Bob Boldrick Theater lobby within the community center that started in February allowing then Chamber Chairman of the Board Bob Fredlund to present the Foundation with a check for $20,300.

2019 Carson City Fair and Demolition Derby aftermath brings donations

The 2019 Carson City Fair finished its third year on the last Sunday in July with a record number of participants, exhibits and spectators. The Fair’s claim to fame is a focus on local youth livestock shows and traditional exhibits. This year, most people didn’t miss the carnival, due to the free games provided on the grassy area.

Meteor watch party, outdoor jazz, family movie night and more Tuesday around Carson City

The children’s section of the Carson City Library is made to be inviting. Brightly colored rugs and furniture are set against the backdrop of a playful mural of the Kennedy’s Children’s corner. But there’s one problem: The shelving.

Heading into the first day of the work week, if you're an early, early riser or are settling in for the night, you'll want to step outside at around 3 a.m. for the peak of the Perseid shower, which will be in the eastern sky. If you missed them, there will be a viewing party hosted by Carson City Parks and Rec at the Jack C. Davis Observatory at WNC beginning at midnight Tuesday morning, August 13. Otherwise, it's onward and upward into the day with a Cooperative Extension presentation, Shred Kids mountain bike camp, Red Cross sitter certification class, West Coast swing dancing and more.
