Heading into Saturday, May 18, 2019 we say welcome to the weekend Carson City. Activities abound throughout the region. Bring an umbrella as the forecast calls for some showers. But above all, enjoy the events and activities lined up in Carson City, Carson Valley, Mound House, Silver City, Virginia City and Dayton areas.

On May 11th the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada completed their first Adopt-A-Trail clean-up at Carson River Park.

The group walked from the parking lot to the fishing pier, focusing on micro trash along the trail and in the parking lot.

They picked up 23 pounds of trash. The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space department would like to thank the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada for participating in the Adopt-A-Trail program and completing their first clean-up!

A big thank you goes out to Grapplers INC for donating new Grapplers to the volunteer program for volunteers to use.

Happy Friday Carson City! It's going to be another grey, cold day which looks like it's going to continue for at least a week. However, that's not going to stop Carson City from having fun! On the docket today we have a bike and music festival, open mic night, fundraisers, Celtic music, and more!

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Artist Patricia Wallis has a background in plein air and aerial painting, having spent much of her 30-year career in Marin County, Calif.

Moving to Reno, she found a completely new palette of color in the landscape. Another change she made in in the past decade was a decision to work exclusively on copper, which gives the image a unique luminescence not found when working on canvas or board. Oil painting on copper goes back to the 15thcentury although it is rarely used by contemporary artists.

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space invites residents in Carson City to come float the Carson River and wrap cottonwoods on Saturday, June 1. Participants should meet at Ambrose Open Space, 281-309 N Deer Run Rd, Carson City. The event is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bowers Mansion Regional Park will kick off its 2019 tour season with a Civil War reenactment this Saturday, May 18, followed by the first Programs on the Porch on May 24.

Hosted by Bowers Mansion Regional Park and Washoe County Parks and Open Space, the event is sure to be a blast, and not just because cannons were definitely a part of the civil war.

One of the great things about our high desert climate is is how quickly conditions can change. Heading into Tuesday we're looking at breezy conditions and sunny skies, with a shift in the weather Wednesday. But for now, let's enjoy Tuesday, May 14, with indoor and outdoor activities including three separate Muscle Powered hosted events, an archery shoot, Big Band Jazz at Living the Good Life and more. The weekend is at our doorstep as we head into Friday, May 10, 2019. Even though forecasters say we may have showers this weekend, the cool spring rain won't dampen the fun. We have a bevy of activities lined up Friday including the opening of the Transcontinental Railroad exhibit at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, day 1 of the two-day Mother's Day Plant Sale hosted by The Greenhouse Project, RSVP's Spring Celebration and Carnival at Mills Park, a day hike, art showings, live music and more.

Heading into Thursday, May 9, 2019 we're looking at a few showers and partly sunny skies around Carson City. The event lineup features the RSVP Spring Celebration and Carnival kickoff and family night at Mills Park, a Healthy Communities event in Silver Springs, CASA volunteer information hour workshop, an afternoon hike along the Ash Canyon trail, art demonstrations, live music and more. Good day Carson City and welcome to Wednesday, May 8, 2019. We're looking at another day of sunshine and afternoon highs in the low 70s. We have activities throughout the region today, including a history presentation in Dayton, a Holocaust memorial service at the Governor's Mansion, art classes, live jazz and more. We want to send a big birthday "shoutout" to our outdoor editor emeritus Don Quilici, who turns 85 today. Don and his wife, Elaine, remain active, maintain healthy walks and hikes around the region and have plans for yet another Alaska outback trip this summer. Happy Birthday Q!

On Saturday, May 4, volunteers joined Lyndsey Boyer, the Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Senior Natural Resource Specialist and Marenna Disbro, the Carson City Weed Coalition Coordinator to help pull 80 pounds of poison hemlock around Bailey’s Pond.

Heading into Tuesday, May 7, 2019 we are looking at another picture perfect day for a morning or evening stroll with Carson City's own Muscle Powered and a bevy of events, including a chamber digital marketing workshop, Polka Dot Powerhouse Carson City Chapter meeting and open house, family movie and craft night at the Carson City Library, a filmmaking discussion followed by a showing of the classic "12 Angry Men" at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall and more. On April 22nd 2019, the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada hosted their first clean-up of Fulstone Wetlands as part of the Adopt-A-Trail program.

Around 90 participants picked up 200 pounds of trash! The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space Department wants to extend our thanks for the efforts of the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada.

There's a host of activities Friday and, looking ahead, a bevy of fun Saturday including a Mother's Day craft fair at the Carson City Community Center, a Star Wars themed bicycle safety day, a wine, cheese and dessert ride aboard the V&T, an early opening of the downtown farmer's market, the May Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, a memorial walk, presentations, comedy, live music and more. Oh what a difference the sunshine makes. The second day of May in Carson City will bring warming temperatures with a daytime high in the low 70s. The Bike Smith joined Muscle Powered on Sunday to begin construction of an access trail to one of Carson City’s newest open space properties. Carson City acquired this 206 acre parcel in the Ash Canyon area in 2018.

Calling all fungi enthusiasts! Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space is going to be looking for wild mushrooms behind the Foothill Garden, behind the Carson-Tahoe Health Cancer Center in the 1500 block of Medical Parkway, with the help of the garden site manager, Will Pierz.

Join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space Department for an educational hike on C-Hill and learn about the ways sheep grazing helps prevent wildfires. Please leave all furry friends at home, as we will be hiking near the sheep as they graze.
