Temperatures again Sunday will be in the low 80s, ideal for events throughout the region. Saturday, August 10

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to help the next three days breeze by, including the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival, Carson City Library’s End of Summer Learning Challenge, history talks at Mormon Station Park, train rides in Virginia City, a sushi cooking class at Sierra Chef on Sunday and more!

Calling all naturalists with a smartphone! Join the Carson City Parks, Rec & Open Space Department along with the Greenhouse Project to explore the citizen science app, iNaturalist, on an interactive and educational hike. Be a part of recording native plants and wildlife in Carson City in the ecologically diverse Rose Canyon (Foothill Garden & Trail).

Calling all creative adventurers! Join the Parks, Rec & Open Space Dept. on the first Interpretive Program devoted to drawing and hiking. If you're a skilled artist or a novice, bring your sketchbook out to Kings Canyon and learn different techniques to be able to portray your the natural environment into a visual art.

Bring your own sketchbook and drawing utensil if you have it, but we will also have paper and pens for folks as well. Please make sure to wear close-toed shoes and bring plenty of water & sun protection. See you there!

Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will host a series of environmental education events free to the public at Silver Saddle Ranch. Learn about the topics below from a Park Ranger from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. No registration necessary and all ages welcome.

Good day Carson City. It is Sunday, August 4, 2019. We're looking at continued sunshine and warm temperatures with daytime highs in the low 90s. Events today feature fitness and art gatherings, music and guest speakers at Dangberg Historic Park and Mormon Station State Historic Park in Carson Valley, train rides and more. Hug your kids and enjoy the day.

Happy Saturday Carson City! It’s going to be a hot, sunny summer day in the capital city with a high of 94. We’ve got a ton of great events to attend, so make sure to bring some sunscreen!

Here’s what we have planned for the rest of the weekend:

Saturday, August 3

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including Hot August Nights Kickoff Rallies in Virginia City, history walks at Mormon Station Park, pickleball at the Carson City MAC, concerts at the Brewery Arts Center and TJ’s Corral, a Muscle Powered Sunday morning bike ride and more!

There are several housing developments for Carson City currently in different stages of review, and one such development is the Andersen Ranch Development, named for the Andersen family who has farmed the Carson City region since the 1870s. This new development is not to be confused with Buzzy’s Ranch on the eastern side of Carson City, also named for the Andersen family.

With a daytime high around 92 and plenty of sunshine, activities lined up around Carson City for Tuesday, July 30, feature a midnight meteor shower gathering at the Jack C. Davis Observatory, morning and evening hikes, a Capital City youth fall baseball meeting, a ladies bike ride, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs, archery at Centennial Park, art showings and more. UPDATE: There's a star party late Monday night into Tuesday morning hosted by Carson City Parks and Recreation and Open Space. For summer’s most visible meteor showers, join the Carson City Parks, Rec and Open Space Department at Western Nevada College’s Jack C. Davis Observatory for some late night, educational fun. No pre-registration necessary. Please wear close-toed shoes and bring water for night hiking from the Observatory. Head lamps and flashlights are allowed. Parking at the Observatory can be found at 2699 Vanpatten Ave, Carson City. Please call (775) 281-7711 with any questions. This upcoming Monday is the Aquariids Viewing Party starting at 12:00 a.m. Tuesday (technically Monday night).

Heading into Monday, July 29, 2019 and we're wondering how the month went by so quickly. Again we're looking at a fairly typical end of July day weather wise, with sunny skies and a high around 94. On tap around Carson City are athletic, art and speaking events, a life guard camp, a computer coding camp, line dancing lessons and more. Enjoy.

Midweek, here we come! Heading into Wednesday, July 17, 2019 and we're looking at another sunshine-filled day full of activities including Trails 4 Tails at Riverview Park, an open house at Carson City's Foreman-Roberts House Museum, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center with a showing of "Monster's University" to follow and more. Enjoy the day.

This week the Muscle Powered Trash Mob of Carson City will ride again with the annual bull thistle pull at Horse Creek Ranch.

CARSON CITY — The Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department is pleased to announce the Ross Gold Park Playground Project has been completed and the new universally accessible playground is now open to the public.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors and Redevelopment Authority will be holding their next meeting on July 18, beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

The Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space department is excited to announce our Adopt-A-Park program!

As part of our Adopt-A-Park program, we have five of our smaller parks available for adoption.

These parks will be open to families, individuals and organizations to adopt.

Heading into Thursday, June 27, 2019, there's plenty to do and see around the Carson City area as we march toward an action-packed weekend. There's a morning Muscle Powered walk, Food Truck Thursday at Mills Park, a Farmers Market in Dayton, a discussion on climate change at Western Nevada College, a history presentation on Chinese woodcutters at the Nevada State Museum, a presentation by the NNDA Executive Director at a GOP monthly meeting, Cruise Night at Wing Stop, an information meeting on the Ross Gold Park master plan hosted by Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space. With a windy cool down headed our way, activities around the Carson City area Wednesday, June 26 will make for a breezy good time. Looking at the day ahead there's a walk hosted by parks and recreation, kids events, Wheeled Food Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center, a free "rough cut" feature film screening at the Carson Nugget, Young Chautauquans at Dangberg Historic Park and more.

Noxious weeds cause damage to our native Nevadan plants, causing issues for the farming industry, local wild-life, and more. Learn how to recognize common invasive weeds, in addition to our Nevada native plants, on Wednesday, June 26 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Good day Carson City and welcome to the last day of spring. Today is Thursday, June 20, 2019. Instead of hot weather, Mother Nature has decided to cool things down some as we head into the weekend with highs in the low 80s today and the low 70s for the first day of summer. Events, activities and more are lined up today including the first day of the three-day police officer motorcycle challenge at Mills Park, morning walks, Cruise Night at Empire Ranch Golf Course and live music outdoors at Living the Good Life.

Ross Gold Park is one of the oldest parks within the City’s park system and is located at 280 Appion Way. As part of the efforts to reinvest in aging park infrastructure, the City released a survey in April, 2019 to get the community’s input on changes to the park’s master plan.

The Carson City Classic Cinema Club is kicking off cool summer nights with a series of outdoor movies located outside the Brewery Arts Center campus at The Change Companies' Minnesota St. Stage in Carson City.

Heading into Tuesday, June 18, 2019 we're looking at continued warming around the region with a daytime high around 91. Temperatures are expected to actually lower toward the end of the week. Events around town Tuesday include a Muscle Powered walk, hike and bike ride, yoga, exercises for the mind and body hosted by the Carson City Emblem Club, political gatherings, art activities and more.

Heading into Wednesday, June 12, 2019 means we are half way through the work week. Temperatures will be around the 90 mark with a chance of afternoon showers. Activities lined up include art classes, a hike designed for tots through Carson City Parks and Recreation, a Ninja aerobic class at Yaple's Ballroom and you can hear local author CW Bayer talk about three of his books on area history at Browsers Corner Book Store.
