Submitted by Danielle Cook on Thu, 04/16/2015 - 5:44amThis National High Five Day I’m throwing out a virtual high five to the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension for putting on this year’s Capital City Farm Days at Fuji Park. 4-H is alive and well in our region, and rightfully so. Agriculture is a huge part of what makes this state great. The program is geared toward school-children, but is open to the public today and tomorrow if you want to learn more about ranching and farming in our region.

I Love Carson City's Weekend Event Summary: April 11-12

How about with a Slurpee? 7-Eleven is having a ‘bring your own cup’ day and if your vessel fits through a ten inch cut-out hole, then you can fill it up for $1.49. Get creative! Take that slushy treat with you to the kick-off of the Carson City BMX season at the Livermore Sports Complex. Play some games at Nerdvana as they celebrate International Tabletop Day, or enjoy the bounce house, face painting, games and more at the WNC Deaf Fun Day to cap off Deaf Pride Week.

WNC recognizes Deaf Pride Week with activities through Saturday
Submitted by editor on Wed, 04/08/2015 - 6:53amCarson Now reader Theresa Lynn Thornton alerted us that Deaf Pride Week is being recognized at Western Nevada College this week.
"We have two huge events coming up, one Friday in the Carson Nugget Hall (Open Hands Night, where you can watch people tell stories and sign songs) from 6-8 and Saturday, our big event, at noon for everyone to come enjoy with free pizza drinks bounce house and face painting," said Thornton. "It all benefits our deaf studies program and helps the deaf community come together."
WNC Easter Fiesta Back for the Holiday
Submitted by editor on Mon, 03/30/2015 - 1:16pmCelebrate the Easter season with the family. Western Nevada College’s Latino Club will host the annual Easter Fiesta event on Saturday, April 4, 10 am to 3 p.m., at the Carson City campus, 2201 West College Parkway.
Alll are invited to enjoy two Easter Egg Hunts, as well as a number of games, including face painting and a coloring contest. There will also be a chance to take a photo with WNC’s Wildcat mascot, Willy.
Game tickets cost only $1 each, or six tickets for $5.

Well, it’s in Reno, but that isn’t too far of a drive for elephants, clowns, and cotton candy. Also in Reno, but intended for a slightly older audience, is the Lady Luck Tattoo and Art Expo, coincidentally held at Circus Circus.
For the outdoorsy-types you can join in the March to End Senior Hunger 5K in Dayton; the 5K Glow Run benefitting the Western Nevada College Softball Team; or join a ranger at Washoe Lake State Park for a guided hike.

Advanced Chiropractic hosts inaugural community Fall Festival

The fun takes place Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and will include face painting, games, crafts, a bounce house, food and more for children of all ages.
There will also be a raffle that includes Wolf Pack tickets, a wine basket, children’s basket and more. All proceeds from the raffle will go to support The Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada.

Sunday evening found the new facility packed full of customers (all of them somehow related to McDonald's employees) in preparation for the grand opening this upcoming Tuesday.

The 2014 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through young adult, with programs, prize drawings, story hours, a reading club, and more.
There is a Read-to-Me portion of the program that families are invited to join as well. Registration for the Summer Reading Program has begun and continues this Saturday, June 14th, at the annual Kiwanis Breakfast for Books. The pancake breakfast will take place on the library lawn from 8:00 am to 10:00 am.

The Northern Nevada Fire Wives BBQ is Saturday, Oct. 12 from 11-2pm at Carson City Fire Station 51 at 777 South Stewart Street in Carson City. The barbecue costs $5; raffle tickets are $1 each.
The barbecue will have a bounce house, face painting and other family-friendly activities, including a visit by Smokey Bear. All proceeds benefit the Northern Nevada Fire Wives organization.
Fundraiser for Julian
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sun, 09/15/2013 - 4:13pmJulian, 5, is diagnosed with cerebral palsy and Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy that is difficult to treat. He has many different types of seizures multiple times a day. The journey to control his seizures has been difficult and on-going. The fundraiser will help raise money for alternative medicine that is not covered by health insurance. The fundraiser is free, and includes music, food, beer, wine, balloon twisting, and face painting. There will also be a silent auction from 6 -8 p.m. with great prizes. Everyone in the community is invited and encouraged to attend.

Dubbed the “Fall Festival,” this family-friendly event offers a “Kid Zone” with 5 bounce houses, arts and crafts tables, a Home Depot build project, various games, kid karaoke, caricatures, face painting and a balloon artist. Adults can enjoy live music and dancing as well as Bingo in the Pavilion with various prize levels available.

The annual free event runs from 8:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carson City Airport, 2600 College Parkway. More than 4,000 visitors attended in 2012, and this year’s open house promises plenty of excitement with dozens of aircraft on display and FREE plane rides for children 8-17 years of age.
