Back by popular demand is the Scarecrow Festival at the Carson Mall, held Thursday through Saturday this week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

More than 700 kids from the age of 4 to 18, their parents, coaches, referees and volunteers are expected to attend opening ceremonies for Carson City AYSO Region 140 fall soccer on Saturday, Sept. 10.

"We are excited about how interested the community is in AYSO." says Region 140 Commissioner Travis Kennison. "These opening ceremonies are a way for us to show pride in AYSO."

Families unite Saturday at Mills Park in Carson City for the first-ever Northern Nevada Family Fun Day, a community event featuring live music, workshops, shopping, raffles, a Kids Zone, giveaways, raffles and more.

There will be rock climbing demonstrations, face painting, pirates, obstacle courses, a bubble station, music, a photo booth, ice cream, refreshments beginning at 11 a.m. and running until to 9 p.m.

After months of planning and preparation, Faith Hope Love of Northern Nevada is about to launch its first-ever Northern Nevada Family Fun Day this Saturday at Mills Park in Carson City.

It’s a ducky day to be a dog. The Nevada Humane Society’s annual Duck Race and Festival in downtown Reno raises funds for our area shelters and gives one lucky duck the chance to win a car. Splash Dogs at Heritage Park in Gardnerville has one last day of competitions for some talented pooches. Bring your favorite four-legged friend to DAWG Days at Mona Lisa and Wine for a special painting class. The rest of Sunday’s options are below.

Monday is the first day of school for the 2016-2017 school year, so here’s a high-five, fist bump, fist pump, elbow bump, curtsey, cheek kiss, air kiss, hang-loose, Shaka bra, scout handshake, armed forces salute, Pabebe Wave, ILY sign, Grey Wolf salute, smile, applause, hand heart, two-finger salute, wave, kiss, hand shake, wink, hug, Vulcan salute, thumbs up, bow, nod, three-finger salute, kowtow, hongi, head bobble, hat tip (though these are against dress code), hand-kiss, genuflection, eyebrow raising, hand of benediction, and Eskimo kissing as a welcome back to all of the returning students, teachers, and administrators of the Carson City School District.

I can understand if your plans for the weekend include sitting half-naked in front of a swamp cooler with an icy beverage. It has been quite roasty these last few days. Carson City celebrates the opening of Bob McFadden Plaza, located on Third Street between Carson and Curry Streets this Saturday, July 30 with a full schedule of events. Proceeds from the celebration will benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Preparations are underway for Carson City's largest community public safety rally set to happen tonight at Mills Park. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will hosts its annual National Night Out from 5 p.m. to 8 pm. This will be the 14th year that the Sheriff’s Office has held this free public event that annually draws thousands of participants.

Blustery Nevada winds tested the mettle of temporary shelters set up on the tarmac at the Carson City Airport's annual Open House event Saturday, but they did not deter a large crowd of morning visitors who came to partake in the festivities.

Members of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity rolled into Carson City Friday as part of a cross-country bicycling tour — Journey of Hope — to support people with disabilities. The bikers made a quick stop at the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada on Friday and have now pedaled their way to Western Nevada College for an evening filled with events and entertainment.

Aviation and aerospace displays, historic aircraft, formation fliers, hot air balloon rides, a pancake breakfast and more will be featured this Saturday at the Carson City Airport Open House.

With well over 6,000 visitors attending last year, this year’s event is expected will be bigger with a bevy of activities including interactive displays, flybys, plane and helicopter demonstrations, drone demonstrations, food and beverages, a bounce house and many family activities.

Bark for Life is a Relay for Life event dedicated to the dogs that give unconditional love and support to their human friends. The 2016 Virginia & Truckee Railroad season chugs full steam ahead starting Memorial Day weekend, May 28-29. Authentic period steam trains ride through the heart of Nevada’s 1860s silver boom towns where legends of the Wild West were born and live on today along the original 16-mile route between Carson City and Virginia City, Nevada.

Into every life a little rain must fall, and we just got plenty. The tulips and lilac blooming around town will be pleased. Unfortunately, it could make for soggy feet if you’ve got any outdoor activities planned. Lucky for us, plenty of fun can be found indoors. Mom, long stemmed roses and the Virginia & Truckee Railroad. The annual Mother’s Day weekend rides on the V&T Railroad are set for Saturday and Sunday, May 7-8. The first excursion of the season is also one of the most popular as families spend the day together celebrating mom.

The 7th Annual Easter Fiesta at Western Nevada College in Carson City was a Saturday scramble made perfect with assorted egg hunts, games and contests for hundreds of children Saturday. The event, hosted by the Association of Latin American Students, had 3 separate egg hunts, face painting, limbo, musical chairs, ring toss, sack races, bowling, food, music and a piñata.

Here comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down Medical Parkway. The annual Eggstravaganza returns to the Carson Tahoe Medical Center this afternoon with fun for kids of all ages. You’ll find Moses parting the Red Sea on the big screen, as The Ten Commandments makes its way to the Galaxy Theater as part of their Classic Movie Series. City Manager, Nick Marano, is the featured speaker at the monthly ‘Soup’s On’ Luncheon sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Enjoy the evening with a Jazz Jam at Sassafras Eclectic Food Joint or karaoke at Crossroads Lounge.

WEDNESDAY:

Carson Tahoe Health is excited to present its fourth annual EGGstravaganza, a family-oriented Easter celebration open to the community. The free event takes place on Wednesday, March 23 from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. in the Sage Café at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center in Carson City.

Got kids? Plenty of fun awaits. Start out at Dunkin Donuts for their Community Celebration complete with face painting and more. Love on a Leash at the Carson City Library will give them a chance to practice their reading skills with a non-judgmental furry friend. Celebrate the Asian New Year with crafts and music at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada. The 16th annual Home and Garden Show put on by the Soroptimists International of Fallon showcases local Fallon businesses. Meet with local nurseries and farmers to get gardening and home improvement tips to make your home beautiful on the inside and outside.
