There will be new additions to the next “Red, White and Blue Barbecue” at the Carson Nugget. The next barbecue will be held on the Carson Street lot, across from the casino on Saturday, June 29th from 1:00 until 7:00 PM. This will be the second in a series of four “Red, White & Blue Barbecues” this summer. Admission is FREE and offer fun for all ages. Must pay for food.

New vendors are currently being sought to participate. Spots are $25 in advance. Interested parties can contact Mary Burgoon at MBurgoon@ccnugget.com.

Celebrating 25 years, the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City is throwing a birthday bash and the community is invited.
The party is June 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Festivities include food, games, face painting, a Bounce house and more.
The Museum is located at 813 North Carson Street in Carson City.

In conjunction with its 25th anniversary, the Museum is sponsoring a contest featuring the "Like" button on Facebook.

The Carson City Airport announces the schedule of its Annual Open House. This year’s theme is “Flight Plan for the Future” and is being held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 8:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. The Open House takes place at the Carson City Airport, 2600 College Parkway, Carson City, Nevada. Over 4,000 visitors attended in 2012, and this year’s event, which is free to the public, is expected to be even more exciting and popular.

Earlier this year Tiffani Barber of Carson City was diagnosed with gliobalstoma, the most common and aggressive malignant brain tumor. She found herself at age 24 in the fight for her life.

UPDATE: Tonight is your night, Carson City. Free admission for all, plenty of chili and refreshments and an opportunity to win some pretty impressive prizes are in store at Carson Middle School beginning at 6 p.m. during its huge Family Bingo and Chili Night party.

Being the capital city of Nevada, Carson City once again shines brighter and bucks the rest, turning the lights on Friday to not one but two Christmas trees during the kick-off of the two-day Snowflake Festival of Lights.

Perched on the State Capital steps, some 300 voices of the Carson City 5th Grade Singing Ensemble sang Christmas carols to a crowd of hundreds (if not thousands) of parents, siblings, dignitaries, retirees, state workers and locals who swelled onto Carson Street in good measure.

Carson City's annual Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights has become so well received over the years that the 2012 festival will now run for two days. The enhanced event is tonight, Friday, Dec. 7, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ice skating continues until 10 p.m.

Tonight's night's festivities begin on the capitol grounds with the state tree, a bristlecone pine, and downtown Carson City being lit along with a procession including Santa, Mrs. Claus and the 300 voices of the Carson City 5th Grade Music Students Singing Ensemble.

Along with neighborhood trick or treating, a handful of Halloween events are lined up for Wednesday including A Halloween Festival planned at Carson Mall. Costumed kids, face painting, games, prizes, snacks and more are featured from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Parents and children can then move on to the Governor's Mansion for an annual Halloween meet and greet, trick or treat.

Carson City Airport "Capital Wings" Open House - 8 a.m. till 3 p.m. FREE to the public. The Open House takes place at the Carson City Airport, 2600 College Parkway. Activities include flybys, plane and helicopter demonstrations, plane and hot air balloon rides, food and beverages in a day filled with family activities.

Proceeds raised through raffle and t-shirt sales will be donated to local area non-profit organizations. The event kicks off at 8:00 A.M. with a pancake breakfast provided by Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).

Registration is from 9-11am and trophies at 3pm. This event is Open to all makes and models, including bikes! Registration is $15. There will be Live Music, Food provided by Dickie's BBQ, Art by Air Face Painting by Lynzie, Fresh Lemonade, Les Schwab Tires and many more vendors. We even brought out the bounce house for the kids. Forget the partridge in a pear tree, Tahoe South has 13 days of Christmas at Heavenly Village spanning Dec. 19 to Dec. 31 with live music, ice sculpting, fire dancers, professional ice skaters, interactive games, dining, shopping, photo opportunities inside a giant snow globe and a fireworks display.

The Carson City Elks Lodge #2177 and the Carson City Emblem Club # 507 is sponsoring a Christmas Party for Community Children on Saturday, Dec. 17th from Noon to 2:30 pm at the Carson City Elks Lodge located at 515 N. Nevada Street, Carson City. It is a free event for ages 0 – 12 years old. Parents are welcome to accompany them.

Downtown Carson City celebrated the start of the holiday season with the annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights.

Streets were closed off as throngs of people gathered in front of the state capitol to watch as the lights for the two giant Christmas trees were turned on.

Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived on the back of an antique fire truck, with Mayor Bob Crowell riding shotgun. After the state's trees were turned on, the crowd headed over to the First Presbyterian Church where the city's Christmas tree was turned on.

The traditional lighting of the Christmas trees – both State and City – has been on-going here in the capital city for well over 22 years. This year, Silver & Snowflakes Holiday Tree Lighting is becoming a new tradition, Silver & Snowflakes Festival of Lights and it begins on Friday evening, December 2nd.

Lake Tahoe South is New Year’s celebration central with Snow Globe, a three-day outdoor music festival with over 40 world-class musicians on three main stages, firework shows, combined with a myriad of outdoor recreation, entertainment and nightlife, providing action-packed holiday season for kids of all ages.

Living in Northern Nevada over this past month, we’ve been the sad witnesses to how tragedy can affect the lives of so many. The horrible shooting at the Carson IHOP that left 4 dead and injured 7, followed by the fatal accident at the air races that took the lives of 11 people and injured more than 70, is a sad and real reminder of how short our time on this earth can be. Left behind are spouses, children, grandchildren and other friends. Along with the unexpected death of their loved one, often comes with a loss of income and other unexpected expenses.

The 19th Annual Al Seeliger Pumpkin Patch will be held this Saturday October 8th, from 9-3 at the school located at 2800 E Salimon Rd. This year’s event will include the usual carnival type games and prizes, bounce houses, face painting and craft booths along with food and of course a pumpkin patch where you can pick out your pumpkins. New to the event this year will be tethered hot air balloon rides; being proved by Remax, Steven Lincolns office. Balloon Rides will start at 8 am.
