Drive-thru Santa's Village at V&T Railway, Living Nativity, Carson Mall Craft Fair, K9 portrait fundraiser highlight weekend activities around Carson City

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Several fundraisers, including the annual “Share Your Christmas” Food Drive will be available throughout the Carson City, Minden and Reno areas on Friday. You can visit the North Pole safely as part of a drive-thru Santa's Village experience at V&T Railway in Carson City, beginning Friday into the weekend. A living nativity scene will be featured at First United Methodist Church on Saturday and Sunday. Combined with train rides in Virginia City, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement. Sierra Lutheran High School and Bethlehem Lutheran School will be two of the schools showcased at the National School Choice Fair on Saturday, February 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Whitney Peak Hotel in Reno.

(Dec. 13, 2019) — Administrators and educators at Carson City’s Mark Twain Elementary School will host Posada 2019, Tuesday, Dec. 17, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The event, open to all students and families, is part of the English Second Language (ESL) Department’s iCan Initiative designed to increase parent and family involvement for students and to help reinforce and extend learning taught during regular classroom instruction. It will include piñatas, face painting, traditional Hispanic holiday food and music, family activities, photos and more.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday Carson City’s Petsmart next to Lowe’s is hosting a “Clear the Shelter” carnival-themed adoption and fundraiser event.

“It’s our first year joining the event,” said Petsmart Manager Rachel Garcia. “We have several different shelters here along with food, face painting, and more.”
