Stimulus Program Information

The coronavirus relief bill passed March 27 by Congress provides payments to individuals who make less than $100,000 a year. The payment total $1,200 for each adult who makes $75,000 or less, plus $500 per child. The payment amounts decrease if you make between $75,000 and $99,000. The income is determined by your latest tax return filed with the IRS. It will use your 2019 taxes if you have filed them already, or your 2018 taxes if you haven't. In a surreal twist, February gaming revenue at Carson City area casinos soared by more than 17 percent, while south shore Lake Tahoe was up 21 percent, and Reno up by 30 percent over February 2019 gaming revenue, a month before the coronavirus pandemic threat began to surface in the Silver State.

With the continuing spread of COVID-19 within the U.S., the healthcare providers of the greater Lake Tahoe, El Dorado Region are working closely with each other and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as California and Nevada health authorities, to care for affected individuals. We are also jointly taking steps to limit person-to-person spread within our communities.

MINDEN — In response to COVID-19 Douglas County officials continue to work closely with Carson City Health and Human Services and a regional Emergency Operations Center that has been set up in Carson City to ensure compliance with the Governor’s directive while working in partnership to keep Douglas County residents safe.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting one new positive case of COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus in the Quad County region: Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties. This brings the total number of cases in the Quad-County region to four.

In accordance with recommendations from the U.S. Surgeon General and the American College of Surgeons, the Carson Tahoe Health Medical Executive Committee decided that effective 1800 (6:00 PM) Friday, March 20, elective/non-urgent surgeries and procedures will be postponed until at least April 20,2020. The elective/non-urgent surgery & procedure plan will be reassessed and extended, if needed.

The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association presents the third annual Northern Nevada CycleNation on June 4 at Reno City Plaza. The fundraiser begins at 5:30 p.m. and will include food trucks, yard games, and music. The stationary bike sunset ride begins at 6 p.m. and lasts for two hours. CycleNation is nationally sponsored by Amgen and is locally sponsored by Carson Tahoe Health.

Carson Tahoe Health (CTH) is unveiling several “Karma Boxes” (wooden/Plexiglas donation cabinets) at its various locations to house toiletries, first-aid items, and nonperishable foods for those in need, all available at any time and at no cost.

Carson City’s own community radio station, KNVC, has been quietly churning out locally curated music, news, information and talk shows for about three years now, and they’re only gaining speed as time goes on.

Shirlee Leah Boyer Veverka, age 84, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020, from complications of Parkinson’s disease, at her daughter’s home in Carson City, Nevada, surrounded by her four children.
