Carson City Sheriff: Man suspected in home intrusion dies from stabbing, investigation continues
A man who was stabbed after allegedly and possibly at random entered a Woodside Drive home late Saturday night has died, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
At approximately 9:32 p.m. on February 15, 2020, Carson City deputies responded to the report of a home intrusion and fight at the 900 block of Woodside Drive. The reporting female told 911 dispatchers that a man had entered her apartment and was fighting on the floor with her husband.
The line disconnected. When deputies arrived, they discovered that an adult Native American male had entered the apartment, and during the fight with the male resident, the intruder was stabbed several times.
The intruder was transported by paramedics to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, said Furlong.
During the investigation into the incident, witnesses in the immediate neighborhood of the intruder incident told Deputies that they had witnessed and reported to 911 an aggressive intoxicated adult male outside of their apartment earlier. That suspect was banging on cars, yelling, and at one point was lying on the ground next to a car. No damage was reported and the suspect was not located by police.
Witnesses told officers the suspect was last seen walking away in the direction of the eventual home intrusion where the suspect was stabbed, according to a news release from Sheriff Furlong. Deputies were able to determine that this incident took place approximately 40 minutes earlier.
While interviewing other neighborhood residents, deputies were informed of an unreported fight in a nearby apartment complex earlier in the evening. During this incident, witnesses stated an adult Native American male was attending a family birthday party gathering as a guest, according to the sheriff's news release.
During the party, the man became highly intoxicated and allegedly battered several persons at the party, including one juvenile. The man left the area on foot and was not seen again. This incident was not previously reported to the Sheriff Office and the names of the victims and severity of the fights is being investigated, according to Furlong.
Investigators were able to link all three incidents and believe the deceased intruder was the suspect of all. Information gathered disclosed that the suspect likely left the birthday party after getting into several fights and was on foot in the neighborhood, said Furlong.
Agitated and intoxicated, he likely walked to the area of 900 Woodside Drive, where he was witnessed by neighbors and the incident reported. A short time later, he likely randomly entered the apartment at the 900 block of Woodside Drive and was confronted by the female resident, according to Furlong.
Her husband then confronted the male and told him to leave, but when the intruder refused, a fight ensued and the intruder was stabbed by the resident and died from the injuries.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification to next of kin. The investigation will beforwarded to the District Attorney for review, said Sheriff Furlong.
