February gaming profits at Carson, Tahoe and Reno casinos soar before COVID-19
Statewide, Nevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $1,042,627,516 for the month of February 2020, or a 3.05 increase compared to February 2019, according to figures released Thursday by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.
Casinos were closed midnight March 17, the first time in Nevada history, by order of the governor due to the COVID-19 pandemic, throwing the gaming and tourism industries across the state into an economic free-fall.
In February, casinos took in gaming revenue in Carson City and Carson Valley amounting to $8,812,362 for the month. At south shore Lake Tahoe, casinos in Stateline took in $17,684,615. And in Reno, casinos gaming revenue generated $57,775,569, and more than $77 million in Washoe County, figures show. The significant increase was likely due to casino betting on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 2.
