Looking ahead to Wednesday, we can expect sunny skies and continued highs in the mid-50s. Midweek events include a Dayton chamber breakfast with the founder of the Desert Pigs cleanup nonprofit group. Plus there's the first of 5 days of Valentine-themed festivities that begins at Carson Mall; an open house at Bethlehem Lutheran School, a CASA information hour, a Carson City School District meeting regarding proposed middle school zone modification. Plus there's a yoga class, Salsa dancing at Yaple's Ballroom, country and pop dancing at Carson Lanes, a safety workshop for women and more.

With sunny skies and daytime highs in the 50s, Tuesday is shaping up to be a great day around the capital city. Muscle Powered will host morning and evening walks, plus there's an assortment of meetings, club gatherings, art showings, a local school board meeting and more. At the end of the day, there's no better way to cap off the evening than by celebrating, with your sweetheart, music about love. That will be what's happening at Living the Good Life as Mile High Jazz Band and our celebrated vocalist Jakki Ford will do just that presenting "Jazz Sampler for Sweethearts." Read on for details.

WNC nursing program ranked 'Best in West' by online career, education website

Recognition has come frequently to Western Nevada College’s Nursing Program from a variety of sources during the past year. The biggest one arrived last Wednesday when Nursing Process selected WNC’s program as No. 1 in the West Region, which encompasses 426 nursing schools, thereby making it one of the nation’s top programs.

Alleged shooter of Carson Colony victim taken into custody

UPDATE: Just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon a man was taken into custody at a casino in the 900 block of South Carson Street. The suspect is linked to a shooting last night at the Carson Colony, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

Muscle Powered Tuesday Evening Hike February 11

Come join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride around Carson City. Muscle Powered is a local non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building.

The Tuesday, Feb. 11 event is at the Carson Tahoe Medical Loop/Wellness Mile. Meet in the parking lot opposite Pesti Lane on Medical Parkway. We will walk on Medical Parkway around the hospital, and on neighborhood sidewalks around the hospital. Flashlight required.

Carson City Sheriff: marijuana-related shooting involving multiple minors brings new arrests

On January 25th, shortly before 8 p.m., Deputies were dispatched to the Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center regarding two males who had arrived with reported gunshot wounds. One victim was treated for minor head injuries, while the second victim was transported to Renown Medical Center by Careflight for treatment. Both have since been released from the hospital.

Carson City Sheriff: 4 juveniles in custody as Saturday's shooting investigation continues

UPDATE: At approximately 4:30 p.m., State Division of Investigations officers took a fourth juvenile into custody related to the Saturday, Jan. 25 shooting. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office has determined that no other suspects are being sought at this time. The fourth juvenile will be returned to Carson City, where he will be charged similarly to those already in custody.

Carson City sheriff's investigators, SWAT search and sweep homes, teen suspects in custody

UPDATE: Four juveniles are in custody in connection to a shooting that happened Saturday night in Carson City in which two adult males suffered gunshot wounds. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said Sunday afternoon in a news releases that four juveniles have been taken into custody in relation to a shooting. Of the juveniles, ages 13-16 years, two were from Carson City and one from Douglas County. Go here for the latest update regarding the arrests.

Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators searched a Janas Way home off of Little Lane early Sunday afternoon. Law enforcement did not provide information regarding what prompted the search.

Greenhouse Project, Carson Tahoe Health offer 2020 Foothill Garden Education Series starting Friday

South Lake Tahoe ski patroller identified in fatal incident at Heavenly

UPDATE: The man who died Saturday has been identified as 36-year-old Christopher John Nicholson of South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Nicholson was a member of the Heavenly Ski Patrol and had been working that day. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Washoe County Coroner’s Office is working to identify a cause of death, according to a DCSO news release.
