Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a toy and gift drive for homeless kids and teens, the 12th annual Christmas Carol Playalong for Strings at the Carson Mall, Carson City’s first-ever "Unsilent Night" at the Brewery Arts Center, a Só Sol dinner with entertainment at Sassafras, a "Pink Party" cancer center fundraiser at the Lighthouse Bar, comedian Dan St. Paul at the Carson Comedy Club and more.

UPDATE: The cause of death has yet to be determined by the Washoe County Medical Examiners Office. No evidence of foul play was located and exposure to the elements may be a factor in the man's death, according to the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

The Washoe County Medical Examiners Office has identified the body of a man discovered by a hiker Tuesday in the hills north of Carson City.

UPDATE 5:14PM: From Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong: At approximately 1:48 p.m., a hiker in the hills between Carson Tahoe Hospital and Lakeview Estates discovered the remains of a deceased older male. The remains were largely buried in snow. Detectives have processed the scene and removed the body for transport to the Washoe County Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy, scheduled for Thursday. Identification of the remains and cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner. No other information is available at this time.

This Saturday, Dec. 21, the Lighthouse Bar in Carson City is hosting a “Pink Party” charity event with money to be donated to the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center.

Over 12 years ago, Denise DiMarzo recognized that the holidays aren’t always a joyous occasion for every family. While working as an office manager for a local elementary school in Carson City and speaking with children every day, DiMarzo realized that that many families struggled to get through the holidays.

September 11, 1937 – December 3, 2019

Jean Hamilton passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Tuesday Dec. 3rd.
Jean married Bud Hamilton on December 22, 1956 in Lindsey, California. They moved to Carson City, Nevada in 1972. Jean always wanted to be a nurse and went to nursing school as soon as all her kids were in school. She enjoyed a 37 year career as a Registered Nurse, with the majority of it spent at Carson Tahoe Hospital. Everyone who worked with her, or were under her care, said she was truly the best nurse.

The days keep moving along, ever closer to the weekend and huge helpings of Christmas holiday activities. Thursday events around the capital city include a meeting of the Board of Supervisors, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a meeting with the developer of the proposed Andersen Ranch, a presentation: "Feathers and Furs of the Carson Valley" at the River Fork Ranch, an "End to Prohibition Party" at Gather restaurant, and more.

A 50-year-old flooding issue in a Carson City neighborhood could finally see a solution with the “North Carson Area Drainage Plan” proposed by Carson City Public Works.

According to Robert Fellows, P.E., Chief Stormwater Engineer for Public Works, an issue involving flooding or “ponding” in a particular Carson City neighborhood has been on the books as an issue since Carson City was still Ormsby County, going back to the 1970s.

Carson Tahoe Care Center invites community members to grab their cameras and join residents and guests for pictures with Santa on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon. Capture the holiday spirit with personalized Santa photos, complete with a Winter Wonderland backdrop and holiday refreshments.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held Dec. 5 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

On the docket for discussion is the sale of property to Carson Tahoe Regional Health Care, development of affordable/workforce housing near Butti Way, purchasing a new radio dispatch console system and public safety audio equipment and more.

The last Thursday of November means a big gobble gobble, Happy Thanksgiving to all. Enjoy in the games, festivities, activities at home and outdoors. Events are at a minimum, for obvious reasons, but the two big ones are traditions for us in the capital city. The Carson City Turkey Trot at the Governor's Mansion and the free Carson Nugget Thanksgiving community dinner. Enjoy your day and any slight break in the weather. More winter storms are on the way.

With snow overnight into the morning, the eve of Thanksgiving will bustle with last minute food shopping and, for many, preparing for an extended holiday weekend. There's a few activities around Carson City on Wednesday, Nov. 27 including a "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, art showings, classes and more.

With the season's first big winter storm expected to arrive later Tuesday evening into Thanksgiving, you can still get in activities around the capital city before the snow flies. There's a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, a job fair at the Carson Nugget, fitness and swing classes at Yaple's Ballroom, a Carson City School Board meeting and more.

Enjoy any sunshine Monday as our first significant snow storm of the season is ahead this Thanksgiving holiday week. Activities and happenings on the first day of the work week, Nov. 25, 2019 include a free yoga class offered through Partnership Carson City, a discussion on the Julian Castro campaign hosted by the Carson City Democratic Men's Club, art events and more.

Santa will be appearing at St. Nick's Village, located at Casino Fandango between the Sky Bridge and Galaxy Theater, each Saturday and Sunday between Thanksgiving and Christmas from 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The first 4X6 photo with Santa is free, and donations will be accepted to benefit The Greenhouse Project.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division has identified and arrested two suspects in numerous Carson City vehicle burglaries that happened in October and this month.

Over the past few weeks, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office has investigated numerous vehicle burglaries throughout the West and North sides of Carson City. Vehicle windows had been broken out and property was stolen. Surveillance videos from homes and businesses showed a male suspect.

Partly sunny skies and cool temperatures are expected Thursday with a warmup in time for the weekend. Even though valley rain and Sierra snow happen this time of year, we're in for a brief change after going weeks without any precipitation. Enjoy the changeup. Carson Tahoe Expressions Memory Care invites the community to attend a free discussion on Thursday, November 21 from 4 to 6 p.m., led by internationally recognized memory care expert David Troxel, MPH. The interactive session will offer effective techniques and approaches on how to make the holiday season less challenging for loved ones living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

The holidays are a time when family and friends come together and celebrate.

Two suspects believed to be involved in vehicle burglaries Sunday at Carson Tahoe Hospital were taken into custody Thursday afternoon at a Winnie Lane fast food restaurant by the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Heading into the middle of the month, we're all deserving of a high five. Carson City Sheriff's Office investigators are asking for the public's help with information regarding vehicles that were burglarized early Sunday at Carson Tahoe Hospital.

Going into Monday, Nov. 11, 2019 it is Veterans Day. Federal, state and local government offices and schools are closed to observe the holiday. Thank you U.S. Veterans for your service to our great country. There are a number of organized happenings in the region, including parades in Virginia City and Reno, as well as events in South Lake Tahoe and Sparks. Plus a number of Carson City and Carson Valley restaurants are offering no cost meals as a gesture of gratitude to veterans and active duty military members.
