National Night Out, film classic at BAC, fitness events and more Tuesday around Carson City

Heading into Tuesday Aug. 6, which means the safest family celebration of the year at the 17th annual Carson City National Night Out. This is an event like no other, where agencies who work in areas of public health and safety gather at Mills Park to meet with Carson City residents. This event features 3 hours of information booths, games, demonstrations, food and fun. Also happening Tuesday is a free robotics mini-camp for kids in nearby Silver City, Reciprocity Inc. will host a fundraiser at Rustically Divine, there's the Culinary Traveler’s Club's Polynesian Paradise featured at Bleu Café; the Carson City Classic Cinema Club will feature a Sci-Fi favorite at the BAC, plus fitness outings and more. Carson City Chamber Leadership class donates more than $600 to Greenhouse Project

Using funds left over from their successful project to provide Carson City with its first bee habitat, 2019 Carson City Leadership class representatives Angela Holt and Steve Jones presented a check in the amount of $634.01 to Greenhouse Project founder Karen Abowd, board member Cheryl Rotter and Foothill Garden manager Will Pierz.

Carson Tahoe Health has introduced their new MOM's Clinic, an extension of their MOM's Program (Maternal Obstetrical Management) to provide pre- and postnatal care to Carson City residents.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days, including Hot August Nights Kickoff Rallies in Virginia City, history walks at Mormon Station Park, pickleball at the Carson City MAC, concerts at the Brewery Arts Center and TJ’s Corral, a Muscle Powered Sunday morning bike ride and more!

At Carson Tahoe Health, we recognize that resources can be hard to come by. That’s why, in conjunction with the CDC and the National Diabetes Prevention Program, starting July 24, 2019, a session of “Small Steps. Big Rewards.” will begin. A year-long program that has proven to be effective in eliminating the risk of diabetes.

Registration is required, please contact Michael Jarvis at (775) 445-7337 to register for the program.

The registration cost is $20.00 to register and an additional $5.00 per class.

Carson City deputies arrest three in felony drug bust

Deputies arrested three Carson residents Friday evening in the 2800 block of Bel Air Way on felony possession of controlled substance among other offenses.

According to the report, Special Enforcement Team deputies arrested Gregory Dee Shoemaker, Nicole Iona Contreras and Devin Edward Keller after receiving multiple drug complaints about a residence.

Taste of Downtown, live music, history talks, BMX and more: Carson City region readies for jam-packed weekend

Dayton Taphouse Hosts Grand Opening and CTH Cancer Fundraiser Friday

The Dayton Chamber of Commerce is hosting a ribbon cutting celebration in honor of the newest Chamber member, the Dayton Taphouse.

The Dayton Taphouse opened in June in a historical 1887 saloon complete with a modern beer garden.

In June, Forbes published an inaugural ranking of “America’s Best Employers” by state, and Carson Tahoe Health took second place for the state of Nevada.

Ladies, It's Time To Take Control Pelvic Floor Class

This is a six-week program for women of all ages, whether you’re looking to improve your sexual function, increase bladder and bowel control or help prevent the need for future surgeries. Led by a physical therapist or a certified trainer, the twice-per-week, 60-minute classes include 15 minutes of education and 45 minutes of exercise. Classes start July 16th and are weekly every Tuesday and Thursday from 4–5 PM at the Health and Wellness Institute (suite 250, 1470 Medical Pkwy).

Cost is $50 per six-week course.

Zion Belcastro, 16, moved from Oroville, Calif., to live with her aunt in Carson City to be a part of Carson High School’s agriculture program, specifically the Greenhouse Project.

“Where I’m from, it’s cows, sows and plows,” she explained. “Here, it’s more than that. It’s public speaking. It’s leadership. It’s the greenhouse. It’s a lot more than ranching.”

A Family Bingo Night fundraiser for a local boy, Bryar Phelps, who was injured in a vehicle accident and is now in critical care, is scheduled for Saturday, June 22 at 5 p.m. in the Carson Mall Shopping Center.

Woman arrested on Carson City warrant after calling deputies for a 'keep the peace' standby

A 49-year-old Carson City woman was arrested in the 1000 block of S. Carson Street Thursday evening on a violation of bail conditions warrant out of Carson City Justice Court after calling deputies to assist in a "keep the peace" standby.

Carson City Chamber of Commerce names Lisa Lee as Chairman of the Board

On Thursday at the Chamber's Annual Meeting, we welcome Lisa Lee as the 2019-2020 Chairman of the Board. She will be handed the gavel from current Chair Bob Fredlund as he moves to the Past President Position.

Kris Wells of AT&T moves from the board to the Executive Committee to take over as secretary/treasurer. All others move up one notch.
