Fourteen area middle and high school students were awarded cash prizes for their entries into the Fleet Reserve Association Branch (FRA) No. 137 Annual Essay-writing contest on Feb. 29 at a luncheon sponsored by the branch Auxiliary in Carson City, held in their honor.

All are invited to the Carson City Native And Newcomers Club meeting on Thursday, March 12. Our club is a nonprofit serving the Carson City area. We meet monthly except, August, for lunch and discussion.

“We did our free clinic at the Community Center, and what a turnout we had; around 100 participants showed up, we had a ton of fun, and we even had high school varsity players help coach the clinic as well” said Carson High School Varsity Basketball coach Jordan Glover.

Carson City Attorney Day Williams has announced that he will run for Assembly District 40, which includes Carson City and a portion of southeast Washoe County. He supports constitutional rights, measures to improve the economy and create jobs, and education that meets today’s needs.

Retired Carson City teacher and longtime animal welfare advocate Lisa Schuette filed candidacy paperwork today for Carson City Supervisor Ward 4. Current Ward 4 Supervisor John Barrette is not running for re-election.

Congratulations to the Carson High School Bowling Team who are the Northern Nevada champs after the team beat Reed High School 24 to 21 to win the HDIBP championship Wednesday at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno.

Hello to everyone in Carson City. My name is Destiny Hernandez, and I am a senior at Carson High School. Just like all of the other seniors here at the school, I am working on my Senior Project, a graduation requirement, in order to benefit not only myself but also those animals in the community who need a home.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the South Carson Complete Streets Project groundbreaking ceremony, the International Film Festival held Friday and Saturday at the Carson City Community Center and Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada celebrate National Girl Scout Cookie weekend with door-to-door cookie sales. Carson City’s own community radio station, KNVC, has been quietly churning out locally curated music, news, information and talk shows for about three years now, and they’re only gaining speed as time goes on.

KNVC runs out of the historic Adams House on North Minnesota Street and, at present, boasts 31 volunteers into its broadcasting family.

A fight that broke out around noon Wednesday at Carson High School over a parking dispute ended with suspensions and citations, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

The Carson City School District is needing local community members to attend, weigh in and provide opinions at the quarterly Community PLC meeting, also known as Professional Learning Community, this Wednesday, February 26, 6 p.m., inside the Carson High School Library.

Nevada Commission for Women and the Nevada Women’s Suffrage Celebration Committee formed to help facilitate collaboration among organizations in Nevada to celebrate and commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. As part of her Carson High School Senior Project graduation requirement, student, and committee member, Chloe Walt is working to educate Nevadans on the suffrage movement and the historic importance of the ratification of the 19th Amendment.

Retired Carson City teacher and longtime animal welfare advocate Lisa Schuette has announced her candidacy for Carson City Supervisor Ward 4. She is running for the seat currently held by John Barrette who is not seeking another term.

St. Paul's Lutheran Family, located at 1201 N. Saliman Road, Carson City (next to Carson High School) will have an Ash Wednesday Service with Holy Communion on Wednesday, February 26 at 12:30 p.m.

The next Carson City School Board meeting will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 25 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.
