Obituary: Robert Paul Pier

United States Marine Corps Captain (retired), Robert Paul Pier (Bob) left this life for eternity on Jan. 8, 2020 to be reunited with his Creator and his waiting wife, Ruth Jane Pier. Bob was born on August 10, 1931 in South Bend, Indiana as the youngest of nine children, Bob was 88 years old.

Eric Steven Abowd left this world all too early at the age of 39 on Tuesday, January 7, 2020.

Eric was born March 28, 1980 in Seattle, Washington but moved to Carson City shortly after, where he spent all his growing-up years. Eric bled Nevada blue and white as a wrestler, running back and Captain for the Carson High Football program. He was always happiest driving the ball up the field.

The Carson High School Blue Thunder Marching Band has been selected to participate in the Chinese New Year Parade in San Francisco for the third year in a row.

Carson City's 'Feast of Chocolate' celebrates 20th year, hosted by AAUW Capital Branch

The public is invited to attend the 20th Annual Feast of Chocolate on Saturday, February 8, 2020. This event is presented by the American Association of University Women, Capital (NV) Branch in Carson City.

The proceeds of this event provide scholarships to local women graduates or to women resuming their education at Western Nevada College as well as to the AAUW Education Opportunities Fund.

The Carson City Council of the Navy League of the United States, will be sponsoring a special event on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020 to honor the 2019 Sailors and Marines of the Year assigned to Naval Air Station Fallon and Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center, along with the Recruiter of the Year from Naval Recruiting District, Portland, assigned to the Reno Office.

Senator Square: Fellowship of Christian Athletes thanks Carson City community for support

Not only did the nonprofit organization Fellowship of Christian Athletes open their Christmas tree lot Nov. 24 to raise funds for their organization’s events and outreaches, they also supported other organizations and individuals by giving away 350 Angel Tree Christmas stockings and Christmas trees to Carson City children and families in need, and they also partnered with Sierra Lutheran High School to donate 75 trees to the US Marines at the Warfare Training Center in Coleville, Calif.

Carson City Parks Foundation Holds an Open House at the Wungnema House this Sunday

Carson High School NJROTC raises more than $3,000 for Carson City Angel Tree Project

CARSON CITY — The Carson High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, also known as NJROTC, program raised more than $3,000 for the local Angel Tree gift program. CHS NJROTC has raised money for the charity for the past three years.

Carson City School District hires Director of Student Support Services

Christine Lenox, Ed.D., has been appointed as director of Student Support Services for the Carson City School District. She will begin her role with the district after it is announced at the next school board meeting Jan. 14, 2020.

Carson City community donates 159 winter coats for kids as part of Carson Nugget fundraiser

The Carson Nugget and Food For Thought, a Carson city nonprofit that is dedicated to feeding children in need, teamed up this fall and launched a winter coat drive that culminated Monday where dozens of children were able to pick their new jackets and parkas and enjoy a holiday brunch among friends and family.

Carson High’s Girls Cross Country Team earn Academic State Champion honors

CARSON CITY — The Carson High School Girls Cross Country Team was honored as the 2019 NIAA Academic State Champions at the close of the season, averaging the best GPA of all 4A schools in the state at a 3.96.
