Carson City Chamber awards hospitality scholarship to CHS senior paralyzed in 2017 rollover

After three years of announcing the availability of scholarships to those who would seek to pursue a degree in hospitality, the Carson City Chamber was finally able to award a $1,135 scholarship to a very deserving student who has chosen to pursue a degree in hotel management.

Carson City Schools hosts 'Screenagers' documentary viewing, talk on screen-time effects

The Carson City School District will host two showings of a 60-minute documentary titled "Screenagers Next Chapter — Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience" Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Bob Boldrick Theatre in the Carson City Community Center. The two showings, beginning at 5:30 and 7:00 p.m., will be free and open to the public. Parents are encouraged to bring their children.

National Honor Society to host blood drive at CHS library

The National Honor Society is having a blood drive in the Carson High School library on Feb. 20 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Blood is in short supply in the winter months, but if 1 percent more of Americans donated, shortages would disappear for the foreseeable future. So come donate at Carson High School on Feb. 20. It only takes an hour, and the life you save could be your own.

Carson High School's Blue Thunder Marching Band dazzles San Francisco at annual Chinese New Year Parade

Carson City was represented Saturday by the Carson High School Blue Thunder Marching Band during the Chinese New Year Parade held in San Francisco. Led by director Bill Zabelsky, it was the third year Blue Thunder participated in the parade.

Senator Square: Carson FFA competes, FBLA speaks and writing class launches online magazine

Capitol FFA traveled to North Valleys High School Feb. 1 in order to compete in the Northern FFA Zone Competition. CHS Agriculture Mechanics, Welding, and FFA Adviser and teacher Rebecca Glocknitzer said, "I know all of our students worked hard to prepare for Zone, and Mr. Mann and I are so proud of their efforts."

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Dozens of sweets are in store for Saturday. The American Association of University Women holds its 20th annual Feast of Chocolate at the Carson Plaza and Event Center. Artsy Fartsy Gallery hosts its 9th annual Jewelry and Chocolate Show with several new decorative pieces. To cap-off Saturday, the legendary Cab Calloway Orchestra makes its way to the capital city.

Congressman Mark Amodei to Speak at Navy League Dinner

The Carson City Council of the United States Navy League will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at the Carson City NUGGET Casino, 507 N. South Carson Street. Senator Square: Carson High School's NJROTC Orienteers compete; music, art students thrive

The CHS, NJROTC Orienteers competed in a weekend long orienteering festival in Anza Borrego State Park, Calif., Jan. 17-18. During the festival, team members competed in three different races over the two days.

Carson Mall, 1223 South Carson Street, in Carson City will host a series of Valentine events, Feb. 12-16, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The mall will feature vendors, free Valentine Photos by Magical Moments, and chocolate dipped strawberries.

From Feb. 12 through Feb. 14, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., visit inside the mall and make a Valentine for a loved one. Then, make another Valentine for a Senior that will be delivered to local retirement homes.

On Feb. 15 Carson Mall will host Family Bingo Night. Proceeds will benefit Carson High School’s Safe and Sober Grad Night.
