Carson City, Northern Nevada Christmas tree recycling locations

What can you do with your Christmas tree once the decorations come down? Carson City is offering Christmas tree recycling in cooperation with Capital Sanitation and Waste Management Inc.
As in previous years, Christmas trees can be placed curbside on your regular trash collection day beginning Jan. 4 or taken to one of the drop-off locations.

Trees will be chipped in the springtime and used as mulch. This program continues to be a huge success. Carson City would like to thank everyone for their participation. Last year the program was able to redirect 31 tons of wood waste from the Carson City landfill.

The dates for tree collection are:
Curbside collection will be from Jan. 4, 2016 through Jan. 8, 2016 on your regular trash day.
If trees are longer than three feet, please cut them up into sections no longer than 3 feet.

Drop boxes will be at the following locations from Jan. 4 through Jan. 8, 2016:

— JC Penney parking lot
— Carson City corporate yard on Butti Way, just west of Carson City Public Works on Airport Road.
— Carson City Landfill (green waste pile.)

After Jan. 8 please take your Christmas tree to the Carson City landfill for recycling.

Trees left curbside after Jan. 8 will be disposed of as garbage and will need to be cut into three foot sections so they will fit into Waste Management trucks.

Please note: Remove all decorations, lights, tinsel and bases from the trees before recycling. Call Carson City Environmental Control Authority at 887-2355, extension 7390, 7380 or 7376 for more information.

Elsewhere in Northern Nevada: Since 2001 more than 300,000 trees have been recycled throughout Nevada thanks to the help of Christmas Tree Recycling programs, thousands of volunteers along with community sponsors.

These programs were established to provide our communities with an easy alternative to landfilling and to prevent illegal dumping of Christmas trees in public open spaces. When chipped into mulch, cut trees become valuable organic material used in landscaping projects that help conserve soil moisture, keep plants healthy and control weeds.

Northern Nevada: The 2015-16 Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) Christmas Tree Recycling program in Washoe County runs from December 26 – January 10.

This year there are nine drop-off locations.

— Bartley Ranch Regional Park (S. Reno),

— Rancho San Rafael Regional Park (N. Reno)

— Shadow Mountain Sports Complex (Sparks)

— 6 Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District fire stations:

— Fire Stations 16 & 301 Washoe Valley

— Fire Station 17 Spanish Springs

— Fire Station 18 Cold Springs

— Fire Station 221 Silver Knolls

— Fire Station 223 Lemmon Valley

Drop-off times are from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. each day of the program at each site. For more info or to volunteer visit http://ktmb.org/christmas-tree-recycling/.

Incline Village: Waste Management will collect clean trees for recycling at the curb on trash service day Jan. 4 to 8, 2016. Trees must be cut into 3’ or smaller lengths. Drop-off trees of any size at Preston Field from Dec. 23 to Jan. 29, 2016. North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District will chip trees for local erosion control projects.
