Public Service Announcement from Mayor Elect Lori Bagwell
With the increasing number of illnesses medical facilities will inevitably be stretched so please stay home and be safe. And if you must attend a gathering or travel please do so sensibly, mask up, stay 6 feet away, wash hands, and use sanitizer.
There are many ways to safely give this holiday season, Friends in Service Helping is accepting donations of non-perishable foods which can be dropped off between 9am and noon, Monday through Friday at 138 East Long Street in Carson City. Please ring the doorbell and contactless drop off.
Another safe way to give is to donate to Holiday with a Hero. This year’s shopping day will be very different. Heroes will reach out to children in need either via Zoom or socially distanced in person, heroes will collect wish lists which includes two items of necessity, such as shoes, clothing or personal hygiene. The lists will then be given to volunteer shoppers who will purchase the items using a $100 gift card to Walmart. The gifts, along with wrapping supplies, will then be delivered to families at the individual schools. You can donate by visiting holidaywithahero.com.
As a reminder, Carson City Health and Human Services will be periodically conducting drive-thru testing events in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties. Tests are free, and no appointment is required but you must reside in either Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, or Storey counties to be tested. Last Thursday, Health and Human Services hosted one of these events in Carson City, with the help of the Nevada National Guard health officials managed to successfully test 653 individuals.
If you’re interested in getting tested at one of these drive-thru events please visit gethealthycarsoncity.org for times, dates, and locations. Tests are quick and painless; simply drive – thru!
I want to give a shout – out to the Carson Educational Support Association here in Carson City. November 18th was National Education Support Professionals day, which celebrates school secretaries, clinical aides, bus attendants, custodians, maintenance workers, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, kitchen workers, nurses, library media technicians, and IT workers.
Thank you for all that you do, I celebrate all of you and appreciate the crucial services you provide in our community.
Have a SAFE and comfortable Thanksgiving! – Lori Bagwell, Mayor-elect
