It's Your City with Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell
This week's It's Your City is with Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell. Before providing an update on the Board of Supervisors, Crowell takes time to update citizens about local happenings including the Dec. 3 open house and ribbon cutting at the Nevada Humane Society Carson Shelter. The event begins at 4:30 p.m. at 3770 Butti Way. The public is invited.
Mayor Crowell notes he and his family recently took a ride on the V&T Polar Express, and urged residents to get their tickets and enjoy the ride. To purchase tickets, call 877-724-5007 or 775-291-0208 or visit www.vtrailway.com. Information is also available at www.polarexpressride.com.
"It's a wonderful trip and a wonderful way to share family and good times," he said.
Close to his heart is the opening of the Ash to Kings Canyon Trail. He notes the trail is longer than what was at first planned, now spanning about 8.2 miles. The trail building is a cooperative effort with Carson City, the U.S. Forest Service and Muscle Powered. He thanked Jeff Potter and Supervisor John McKenna who helped "cut the trail" along with the dozens of other volunteers.
"It's one of the gems of Carson City," he said.
Crowell discusses the open space management plan and other matters coming up before the Board of Supervisors. He notes that at the last meeting the board approved the Third Street pocket park concept. It is a true public-private partnership, funded primarily out of redevelopment money and a $125,000 gift from the McFadden family.
