Voting as YOUR Representative

In response to Mr. Waclo's letter dated July 19, 2016, his statements regarding my positions are not accurate.

I opposed the 1/8th cent sales tax because voters were denied their right to vote. This tax includes funding for narrowing the downtown street and is similar to a project previously voted against by the citizens. Based upon past and current input received, nothing has changed.

The underground utility work would have been required and the funds were available, even if the narrowing of Carson Street had NOT occurred. That is a fact.

Carson City Mayor honored by American Planning Association

Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell was honored Sept. 15 by the Nevada Chapter of the American Planning Association with the DeBoer Award for Distinguished Leadership by an Elected Official, for his role in championing the Carson City Downtown Urban Design Streetscape Project.

Column: Deep Thoughts, Cheap Shots and Bonbons

In the movie Dances with Wolves there is a line, one of the characters says, and it goes something like this: “Somebody back east is saying, why don’t he write?”
Many of you might be wondering the same thing about me. Why I haven’t written for a spell? I could list numerous reasons, some might be worth mentioning, and others would be insignificant.

In simple true-to-life terminology — I’m back. A few of the hot topics from the June 18th Board of Supervisor meeting.

Three CPAs seek Carson City treasurer

Former Supervisor John McKenna and City Finance Director Nick Providenti applied to be Carson City’s next treasurer, but there is a third competitor.

Letter: Carson City Planning Heroes

Downtown Brewery Renovation

Editor: I have been in the antiques business in Downtown Carson City for more than 15 years. The last six years have been extremely difficult, but perhaps our state may have reached a turning point.

In the last 15 years I have been involved in dozens of community meetings and planning sessions that were generally boring and filled with doomsayers and negativism. I've spent hundreds of hours gnashing my teeth listening to every malcontent in town who says that saving our Downtown is a waste of time and money. They have said it's by-the-way impossible.

Carson Nugget Thanksgiving 2014: 60 years of Carson City tradition

When Carson City throws a Thanksgiving dinner, the Carson Nugget has always delivered. With 60 years now under its belt, the downtown capital city casino again outdid itself with community service, treating nearly 1,000 residents to a free Thanksgiving meal.

Teaming up with Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, guests were stuffed with turkey and all the trimmings, dished up by dozens of volunteers.

Digital Donation Drive: Donate your old devices to the Carson City Library

Supervisor John McKenna and Library Director Sena Loyd

It’s the time of year when new digital devices are given as gifts, but what exactly happens to the old ones? Oftentimes they’re put in a box and left behind. The Carson City Library has launched a plan to save gently used and in good working order older models of a number of digital tools.

Between Nov. 24 and Jan. 31, patrons can make a tax-deductible donation of working devices to the Carson City Library at its “Information Desk” inside the main branch at 900 N. Roop Street.

“Tesla's decision to open a huge battery plant in the Reno area is exciting news and a game changer for all of northern Nevada. I congratulate the Nevada economic development team on landing this high technology company for our area.
