Carson City area weather: Rain showers to turn to snow on the valley floor
Monday morning has arrived with rain showers in Carson City and snow in the Sierra. Forecasters have made some adjustments since Sunday, with the latest from the National Weather Service calling for temperatures to drop, with snow possible on the valley floor late in the afternoon and into Tuesday morning.
Snow showers are still possible on the valley floor this morning. The colder and more unstable part of the current winter storm system will arrive late this afternoon and move across the Sierra and far western Nevada overnight into Tuesday morning. This will result in slick and hazardous driving conditions including the evening commute today and the morning commute on Tuesday. If you are traveling, plan on some travel delays and expect snow and chain requirements.
There’s a Winter Weather Advisory that begins at 4 p.m. that extends across the Sierra, Lake Tahoe and down to the valley floors, including Carson City, Carson Valley and Dayton area.
Snow showers with bursts of heavy snow showers are possible from 6 p.m. tonight through 4 a.m. Tuesday morning, tapering around daybreak Tuesday. Anywhere from 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected on the valley floor, with 3 to 6 inches above 5,000 feet and up to a foot in the Sierra.
