Carson City man allegedly knees pregnant girlfriend, prevents her from calling for help

A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested early Sunday for alleged multiple offenses including suspicion of felony interference with a victim of battery by preventing them from calling for help, a sheriff's deputy booking report states.

Christian Salazar was arrested at 1:18 a.m. in the 1500 block of North Edmonds Drive. He was also booked for suspicion of gross misdemeanor child neglect/endangerment, misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence and misdemeanor domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, a sheriff's deputy made a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The officer made contact with the female driver who said she was 28 weeks pregnant, was kneed by her boyfriend in the stomach and was on her way to a friend's house for help to get to the hospital.

The victim stated the man, Salazar, became extremely aggressive with her, grabbed her cell phone in which she tried to get back and was kneed in the stomach and held down on the couch. She further stated she tried to leave the residence several times but was unable to due to Salazar forcefully keeping her from leaving by holding her by the arms. The man had been drinking. The woman was able to get out of the residence and left in a vehicle, in which she was stopped for going at a high rate of speed.

The victim was transported to Carson Tahoe Hospital for evaluation. Officers went to the residence and made contact with the suspect. Deputies could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. He was asked to explain about the dispute earlier, in which he stated he and the woman were arguing over phones but stated he never tried to keep her from leaving the residence and at no time was it physical between the two of them.

Salazar was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery, dissuading a victim, child neglect/endangerment, and violation of a suspended sentence. Bail amount listed: $11,637.

In other arrests:
— A 39-year-old Carson City man, Jan Phillip Abdelhadi, was arrested Sunday in the 2500 block of Carriage Crest Drive for a felony warrant alleging obscene exposure in the presence of a child under the age of 18. Bail: $5,000.

— A 24-year-old inmate at Carson City Jail, Chance Higby Banta, was booked for two counts suspicion of battery on an officer following an incident Saturday.

According to the arrest report, the suspect had refused lock down after a jail deputy located a book cart on its side. Jail officers arrived and attempted to escort the man back to his cell, when Banta began resisting, breaking free and punching two deputies in the head, the booking report states.

One deputy suffered a laceration above his right eye and went to urgent care for evaluation.

The suspect continued to resist, with five CCSO officers called to the scene of the altercation. Banta was tasered. After the taser probes were removed he was read his Miranda warning in which he stated he did not wish to speak. Bail: $30,000.

— A 52-year-old Reno man was arrested Sunday, 9:46 a.m. in the area of Molly and Karin Drive for misdemeanor suspicion of driving with a suspended or revoked license due to DUI. Bail: $637.

— A 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday in the area of Highway 50 and Airport road for misdemeanor suspicion of driving with a suspended license and a misdemeanor warrant (stalking) out of Lyon County. Bail: $3,777.

— A 58-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday in the area of Park and Fall streets for misdemeanor violation of a temporary protection order and violation of bail conditions, both misdemeanors. Bail: $6,137.

— A 33-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday in the area of Mockingbird and Pheasant streets for a misdemeanor warrant alleging driving with expired registration and the following alleged offenses: no proof of insurance and driving with a suspended license. Bail: $1,691.
