Carson City deputies make arrests for battery, domestic battery and lewdness

A 44-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday in the 400 block of Clear Creek Avenue for misdemeanor suspicion of battery, a sheriff's deputy report said.

According to the arrest report, the male victim stated he was attacked at residence on Gibson Avenue. The victim stated he was punched approximately 15 times in the head by the suspect and was eventually able to get away.

Deputies observed numerous lacerations and bruises to the victim's face. He was taken to the hospital and examined for his injuries. The victim advised he wanted to press charges against the suspect and signed a citizen's arrest form.

The suspect was located later in a parking lot on Clear Creek Avenue and questioned. The suspect said the victim was a snitch, that he didn't attack him, and that the victim fell down. He later told the deputy he took a swing at the victim but missed and then stated that if the victim said he did it, then he did it, the report states.

Deputies observed fresh blood on the suspect's hands and a small cut on his right hand and bruising on the man's knuckles. He was arrested at 1:54 p.m. for suspicion of battery. Bail: $1,137.

— A 61-year-old man was arrested Sunday in the 1700 block of Deer Run Road for suspicion of gross misdemeanor open and gross lewdness, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched at 12:06 p.m. to Ambrose Park in reference to a man sitting in a red pickup and masturbating. An arriving deputy advised that as he got to the area he observed a male exit the vehicle and began walking toward the river into the brush.

Deputies spoke with the victim who advised he was walking his dogs and observed the man sitting in the truck not wearing pants and was masturbating. A sheriff's office sergeant and a deputy began to track the man with the help of a canine.

The suspect was located approximately 300 yards northeast from the truck. He was taken into custody. The victim completed a witness statement. Bail: $2,500.

— A 45-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday, 11:21 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Edmonds Drive for suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery.

According to the arrest report, deputies were dispatched to the area for a report of a battery. Deputies learned through the investigation the suspect had been drinking all day. He and the victim got into an argument, where the victim stated the man hit her in the head with a child bounce chair and then pinned her down on the couch with the chair.

The suspect told the officer that the injury on the victim's head was self-inflicted. The suspect had scratches on his face and told deputies he was attacked and he acted in self defense. The victim stated in an attempt to get away from the man, she scratched his face and kicked him, the report states.

The man was determined to be the primary aggressor and was arrested for suspicion of domestic battery. Bail: $3,137.

— A Sparks man was arrested late Saturday evening in the area of Park and Roop streets for suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and failure to maintain a lane of traffic.

According to the arrest report, dispatch was advised at 9:40 p.m. of a suspected DUI driver and a reporting party who stated he was following the driver of a black Land Rover that was failing to maintain a lane of traffic.

Deputies located the suspect driver at the intersection of Roop and Long streets stopped at a stoplight. A deputy followed the vehicle, and then conducted a traffic stop. As the deputy approached, he observed the driver hunched down over and had his hands near the floorboard. The officer ordered the driver to put his hands on the steering wheel and keep them there. The officer advised the man the reason for the stop.

The driver spoke with thick speech and had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Deputies asked him if he had consumed alcohol. The man stated he had three beers before he drove to Carson City.

The driver consented to standardized field sobriety tests and showed signs of impairment on the tests. He provided a preliminary breath test of .261 and was arrested for suspicion of DUI and failure to maintain a lane of traffic. Bail: $1,269.

— A 64-year-old transient was arrested Sunday in the area of Spear and Curry streets for two misdemeanor failure to appear warrants. Bail: $545.

UPDATE THURSDAY: The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the two people who died Wednesday morning following the two vehicle crash on I-580 in Carson City. They are Alejandra Hernandez Valtierra, 36, and Viola Santoyo Huizar, 48, both of Carson City.

UPDATE 12:42PM: Southbound I-580 in Carson City was opened as of around 11 a.m., said a Nevada State Police spokeswoman, who provided more details of the fatal crash that happened early Wednesday morning.

Both the driver of a car and a truck involved in the crash died. Their names have not been released pending notification of family members. The car, which was going the wrong way — northbound in the southbound lane — struck the truck and caught on fire, according to a NSP preliminary investigation thus far. The vehicle makes are unknown at this time.

Dayton Elementary School in Lyon County was honored Wednesday along 13 other schools including Carson High in Carson City as a Nevada Purple Star School.

Schools receiving the designation have committed to supporting the educational and social-emotional needs of military-connected children and their families.
