Couple arrested in Carson City store parking lot for fighting over and shaking child

According to the police report, two teenagers were arrested in a store parking lot in the 1900 block of N. Carson Street for engaging in a physical altercation while a two-month-old infant between them.

A 19-year-old transient man and an 18-year-old transient woman were booked on child neglect/endangerment and domestic battery first after several concerned citizens called deputies to respond to a fight. The reporting parties stated there was a man and a woman physically fighting in the parking lot and pulling an infant from each other during the fight.

When deputies arrived on scene, they made contact with the couple who both said the argument was verbal and no physical altercation occurred. The woman said they were arguing over cigarettes. Deputies noted the woman was holding an infant who was only two months old. She told deputies the child was hers and the man was the baby’s father, according to the report.

Three witnesses on scene told deputies they watched the man and the woman engage in a physical fight and saw the two pushing and hitting each other. At one point, they were “wrapping their arms around each other like a headlock, but around their bodies and arms instead of their head.”

The two continued to argue and tried to take the child out of the stroller. They fought over the child, pulling the child between the two of them. All reporting parties stated they were concerned the child would be hurt because it was so little and was being shaken during the altercation.

One witness had recorded a portion of the fight on their cell phone. The video shows the man and woman pushing each other and violently moving the stroller with the baby inside. The two reach into the stroller and violently pull the baby back and forth while the baby is still in the stroller, the report states. The video clearly shows the baby’s arms and legs thrashing around inside the stroller. At one point, the baby is picked up out of the stroller just over the level of the tray, before the baby is violently pulled back and forth between the two and forcefully put back into the stroller.

The two were transferred to the jail without incident, and CPS arrived on scene and removed the child.

Bail for each: $5,637

— A 26-year-old Carson City man and a 23-year-old woman were arrested early Thursday morning after alleged property damage and a car chase.

Deputies were dispatched to the area of Westcreek Lane in response to a report of property injury just after midnight. When deputies arrived, a sedan was puling out of the property. Other deputies were dispatched and located the vehicle in the area of Wine Lane and N Roop.

Deputies had the driver of the vehicle, identified as the 26-year-old man, exit the vehicle. When deputies asked the woman to exit the vehicle, she instead rolled up her window and locked the door. She then crawled into the driver’s seat and drove away.

Deputies followed the woman but lost her after she drove through a red light at Winnie Lane and N. Carson Street before turning onto Michael Drive. Deputies were unable to locate her in the area.

The man refused to identify himself and would not cooperate with deputies. They transported him to the Carson City Jail.

Deputies met with the reporting party of the Westcreek Lane residence. They told deputies they were lying in bed in their bedroom when they heard someone banging on the front door. They looked outside and saw a man and a woman outside the residence. At that point, the reporting party said they heard windows breaking and heard the man shout “get the f*** out here mother******.”

Eventually, they left the property, said the reporting party. There were surveillance cameras around the property. Recordings were forwarded to deputies.

The reporting party stated the windows which the man and woman broke would cost approximately $500 to repair.

Later that morning just before 8 a.m., deputies went to a residence in the 500 block of Jeanell Drive in an attempt to locate the woman. Deputies said inside the residence they could see someone peeking through the windows but refused to come out. The landlord arrived on scene and gave consent to deputies to enter the residence.

She was arrested for eluding in addition to destruction of private property, and a contempt of court warrant out of Carson City Justice Court.

No bail for the woman on the contempt of court warrant.

The man was arrested for destruction of property, threats, and obstructing a public officer.

Bail for the man: $1,656
