Carson City Silver Dollar Car Classic continues through Sunday at Mills Park
With the rev of mighty V-8 engines and enough polished chrome to require a good pair of sunglasses, the annual Silver Dollar Car Classic is the capital city's all-out celebration of the American automobile.
Today through Sunday, Mills Park in Carson City turns into a mecca of some of the finest hot rods ever made, with more than 400 restored, tricked-out and souped-up cars and trucks on display under the canopy of dozens of shade trees.
The event brings classic car lovers by the thousands to the capital city annually where enthusiasts and owners swap stories about how they maintained their vintage cars and what kind of work went into them. From engines to parts to old time rock 'n roll and great food by dozens of vendors, the annual show provides anyone who loves cars a place to see some of the best in the West. The event is free and there's plenty of food vendors to make it an ideal weekend in the park for picnics and car gazing. Today, Saturday, Judging runs through 4 p.m. with a Canyon ride beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Sunday begins at 8 a.m. with a Dayton Kiwanis mouthwatering breakfast followed by a poker run from 8 a.m. to noon. Barbecue lunch for the public starts at 11 a.m. with awards beginning at 1 p.m. with a nominal fee.
