Carson City sheriff's arrest log: Man jailed on felony possession of heroin

A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Monday in the 200 block of Mary Street on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Arrested was Richard Anthony Prendez. He’s being held on $3,637 bail. A 29-year-old woman with him was arrested on a misdemeanor contempt of court warrant. According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the area in reference to a domestic dispute. Prendez was reported to have angrily walked down the street and returned to a vehicle parked outside a residence. The female was reported to be screaming at the man.

The officer identified Prendez as a heroin abuser from his involvement in many narcotics investigations, according to the arrest report. He was seated in the driver’s seat in a vehicle parked in front of a residence. The officer asked the man to step out of the vehicle and seat himself on the curb while the officer contacted the woman at the residence. The woman would not come outside at first and had to be convinced before exiting and speaking with the officer, according to the arrest report. A dispatch check showed she had a confirmed warrant out of East Fork Township Court.

Prendez’s driver’s license was confirmed suspended by DMV. His vehicle presented a road hazard as it was parked more than 22 inches away from the curb and was designated for impound. Upon inventory of the vehicle officers found several items of drug paraphernalia, including a spoon with a heroin soaked cotton ball and wax paper with heroin residue. The heroin soaked cotton ball tested positive and Prendez was booked into custody at 11:05 a.m.

The vehicle was occupied by three males in the front seat and one male in the rear seat area.

The driver verbally identified himself and did not have a driver’s license in his possession. The right front seat male then exited the vehicle and ran south away from the location. He was not located or identified.

The officer smelled a slight odor of alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath and his eyes were red and watery. He said he had three beers prior to driving. He was giving a series of standardized field sobriety tests. A preliminary breath test showed a .085. He was arrested for DUI and minor consuming alcohol.
